Fr. Robert writes…
PRAYER FOR OUR FAMILY OF PARISHES CORPUS CHRISTI, 7th JUNE 2026

As the Eucharistic Jesus is carried in Procession through the streets of Kinsale this Sunday, these may be some of the intentions we might bring before the Lord in prayer.

We pray for all the people of our Family of Parishes (Ballinhassig, Clontead, Courceys, Kinsale) as we go through life together. May we care for and respect one another. May we be tolerant of one another in our differences. May we not be divided but rather work together for the good of the whole community.

We pray for the children and all among us who are defenceless and small. May nothing harm them. May we lead them to know the truth. May we have the courage to protect the vulnerable and the inexperienced.

We pray for young people whose lives lie ahead of them; that they may go forward with open and receptive minds to meet their future, that they may learn to live with life’s uncertainties and be able to face disappointments. May they learn to accept themselves and never to lose heart. May they do well in their exams. May their wisdom and enthusiasm be appreciated by the older people.

We pray for those who are in the prime of life, that their lives may be fruitful. May they not be self-seeking but seek the welfare of others. May they not be lonely, complacent or closed to others. May they not lose faith in God.

We pray for the seniors in our community. May they stay young at heart. May they have wisdom and openness, and allow latitude to younger people. May they not be left out but share their wisdom and experience of life.

Lord, we pray too for the people who live in the troubled areas of the world. We pray for the people of Gaza, Iran and Ukraine. We beg you, Lord, guide all in the way of peace and reconciliation.
Lord Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist, we ask Your blessing on us and all people. Strengthen our faith, guide us along the path to what is right and true.

OBITUARY
Dick Buckley, Ardbrack, Kinsale.

The death took place, peacefully after a short illness in his 97th year, of Dick Buckley on Friday 29th May 2026.

Dick was born in Wales to parents from Cork. He attended boarding school in Bath, UK where he developed a great love for cricket and rugby. He came to study medicine in UCC, then went to study dentistry in UCD. Dick was an accomplished athlete. He was blessed with a lovely singing voice and good humour. He had a very powerful influence on the life of his family and friends.
The funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Robert and there followed a service at the Island Crematorium.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Dick’s wife Isabel, his children Christine, Bridget, Nuala, Diarmuid and John, his seventeen grandchildren, his twelve great-grandchildren, his brother Mark, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

May he rest in peace.

OBITUARY
Sr. Mary Teresa Morrissey (Sr. Finbarr), Convent of Mercy

The death took place of Sr. Mary Teresa Morrissey peacefully in Kinsale Community Hospital on Friday 29th May 2026.

Sr. Mary Teresa was born in Limerick city. She attended Mercy Boarding School in Doon and when she was 18 she entered Kinsale Convent. That year (1944) Kinsale Convent was 100 years old so she always joked that she was a ‘centenary gift’ to the Community. She was a wonderful teacher who gave fully of herself and was much loved by her students – in the Infant School, the Orphanage and in the Secondary School. Sr. Mary Teresa was gifted and hard working. She produced musicals including ‘The Maid of the Mountains’ and ‘The Gondoliers’. In 1972 she went to work in Florida where she was equally much-loved and continued to share her gifts. She returned to Kinsale in 2004 and continued to live life to the full, including many trips to Lourdes. In her final years, and especially her final weeks, she was quite weak and confined to bed; yet she never grumbled and was always so grateful to the staff and to the Sisters for their continued care. Her little white Rosary beads were always either in her hands or hanging beside her bed.

The funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Dave Twohig O.Carm and the burial was to St. Eltin’s cemetery.

We extend our deepest sympathy to the Mercy Sisters, Sr. Mary Teresa’s brother Donal, sister-in-law Eileen, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, great-grandnephew, many cousins and friends.

May Our Lady of Lourdes give her a wonderful welcome home.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AFTER THE CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION

The Corpus Christi Procession will be followed by continuous Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in St. John the Baptist church until Benediction at 7pm on Monday 8th June. There will be Evening Prayer on Sunday at 7.30pm.
A special rota for Eucharistic Adoration is in the back of the church for people to put their names down for the times they can be in the church. We will pray especially for vocations. Many volunteers will be needed to fill the whole rota so I am making an appeal to parishioners to set aside some time to watch with the Lord.

UPDATE:
Eucharistic Adoration on Monday 8th June will be paused from 1pm to 4pm for a funeral Mass.
Adoration will resume at 4pm until Benediction at 6pm on Monday 8th June.
