God works in mysterious ways and many receive their first invitation through Our Lady. Our Lady Queen of the May, Pray for us. Amen
Scott-Vincent Borba, the co-founder of the multi-billion dollar cosmetics brand e.l.f., will be ordained a Catholic priest on May 23, 2026, in the Diocese of Fresno, California.
Before the age of 30, Borba had already spearheaded successful campaigns for some of the biggest names in the beauty industry, including Neutrogena, Sebastian, Joico, Murad, and Hard Candy. He co-founded e.l.f. Cosmetics on the principle that high-quality makeup should be accessible at drugstore prices, and went on to develop his own eponymous skin-balancing water brand. He was an esthetician to Hollywood celebrities, and once gave actress Mila Kunis a 7,000 dollar facial using microcrystals from diamonds and rubies for the 2011 Golden Globes. He authored multiple books and modeled in his youth.
At age 40, Borba walked away from his multimillion-dollar career. He donated his entire fortune to charity and entered Saint Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park, California at age 42.
In a 2019 interview, he said: "God has blessed me with everything under the sun. He not only blessed me with money and awareness, and just every business I had, he allowed me to have success with it. Then I decided, what is wrong with me? I was vapid. I had a perverse life. I went to LA, I got sucked into the Hollywood lifestyle. It was almost to a point where I was trying to sell my soul. I was living for myself. I was idolizing myself. I was a poster boy for luxury."
Borba credits the Blessed Virgin Mary for his conversion. His mother, a devout Catholic with a deep devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, first planted the seed when he was in third grade. He recalled: "At Mass, she asked me to look up at the altar, and if I wanted to be the man in the robes. Whoever the priest was, his robes at that moment were shimmering like glitter. And I knew God was placing on my heart to become a priest."
He said the call came at age 10, but he "accepted late." He was ordained a transitional deacon by Bishop Joseph V. Brennan on June 21, 2025 at Saint Charles Borromeo Church in Visalia, California.
Borba said: "I know that our Blessed Mother has brought me into this vocation because of her love for me and for her Son. I have never been happier. I have never been more full of joy. With everything the world can give me, I would give it back a million times over to be united to Jesus."
