How did Therese become known as the "Little Flower"?......Read on...

On the afternoon of Pentecost Sunday, May 29, 1887, Thérèse asked her father’s permission to enter Carmel.
”I chose the feast of Pentecost as the day to break the news, all day long begging the apostles to pray for me, to inspire me with the right words. I found the opportunity to speak to my dear Father only in the afternoon after Vespers. He was seated by the well, contemplating the marvels of nature with his hands joined. Papa’s handsome face had a heavenly expression about it, giving me the feeling that peace flooded his heart. Without saying a word, I sat down by his side, my eyes already wet with tears. He gazed at me tenderly, and taking my head he placed it on his heart, saying: “What’s the matter, my little Queen? Tell me.” Then rising as though to hide his own emotion, he walked while still holding my head on his heart.Through my tears, I confided my desire to enter Carmel and soon his tears mingled with mine. He didn’t say one word to turn me from my vocation, simply contenting himself with the statement that I was still very young to make such a serious decision. I defended myself so well that, with Papa’s simple and direct character, he was soon convinced my desire was God’s will, and in his deep faith he cried out that God was giving him a great honor in asking his children from him.
Papa seemed to be rejoicing with that joy that comes from a sacrifice already made. Going up to a low wall, he pointed to some little white flowers, and plucking one of them, he gave it to me, explaining the care with which God brought it into being and preserved it to that very day. While I listened I believed I was hearing my own story, so great was the resemblance between what Jesus had done for the little flower and little Thérèse. I accepted it as a relic and noticed that, in gathering it, Papa had pulled all its roots out without breaking them.
I placed the little white flower in my copy of the Imitation at the chapter entitled: “One must love Jesus above all things,” and there it is still, only its stem has broken close to the roots, and God seems to be saying that He’ll soon break the bonds of His little flower, not allowing her to fade away on this earth!

God works in mysterious ways and many receive their first invitation through Our Lady. Our Lady Queen of the May, Pray for us. Amen

Scott-Vincent Borba, the co-founder of the multi-billion dollar cosmetics brand e.l.f., will be ordained a Catholic priest on May 23, 2026, in the Diocese of Fresno, California.

Before the age of 30, Borba had already spearheaded successful campaigns for some of the biggest names in the beauty industry, including Neutrogena, Sebastian, Joico, Murad, and Hard Candy. He co-founded e.l.f. Cosmetics on the principle that high-quality makeup should be accessible at drugstore prices, and went on to develop his own eponymous skin-balancing water brand. He was an esthetician to Hollywood celebrities, and once gave actress Mila Kunis a 7,000 dollar facial using microcrystals from diamonds and rubies for the 2011 Golden Globes. He authored multiple books and modeled in his youth.

At age 40, Borba walked away from his multimillion-dollar career. He donated his entire fortune to charity and entered Saint Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park, California at age 42.

In a 2019 interview, he said: "God has blessed me with everything under the sun. He not only blessed me with money and awareness, and just every business I had, he allowed me to have success with it. Then I decided, what is wrong with me? I was vapid. I had a perverse life. I went to LA, I got sucked into the Hollywood lifestyle. It was almost to a point where I was trying to sell my soul. I was living for myself. I was idolizing myself. I was a poster boy for luxury."

Borba credits the Blessed Virgin Mary for his conversion. His mother, a devout Catholic with a deep devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, first planted the seed when he was in third grade. He recalled: "At Mass, she asked me to look up at the altar, and if I wanted to be the man in the robes. Whoever the priest was, his robes at that moment were shimmering like glitter. And I knew God was placing on my heart to become a priest."

He said the call came at age 10, but he "accepted late." He was ordained a transitional deacon by Bishop Joseph V. Brennan on June 21, 2025 at Saint Charles Borromeo Church in Visalia, California.

Borba said: "I know that our Blessed Mother has brought me into this vocation because of her love for me and for her Son. I have never been happier. I have never been more full of joy. With everything the world can give me, I would give it back a million times over to be united to Jesus."
