An Chéad Chath is delighted to host a Men's Health Week afternoon in the brand-new USAC building on Lakeshore Drive (H91 AN2E), on Wednesday, 17 June, from 1500 hrs until 1900 hrs. Vacancy – Diocesan Advisor for Primary Religious Education

The Dioceses of Clonfert, Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora invites applications for the position of Diocesan Advisor for Primary Religious Education. As a member of the Diocesan Pastoral Team, the successful candidate will support religious education in primary schools and assist parishes in supporting parents of primary school children. The successful applicant will hold a degree in Education or Theology, have excellent communication and computer skills, proven experience of the Grow in Love programme, and a full driving licence with access to a car. A huge crowd, led by many girls and boys who recently received their first Holy Communion, gathered on Sunday for the Annual Corpus Christi Procession, which made its way from Saint Oliver Plunkett Church, Renmore Parish, to Saint Patrick’s Garrison Church, Renmore, for Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. The weather wasn't the best, but the occasion was beautiful. Thanks to all who organised it and who helped out on the day.

May Jesus, who continues to walk among us, continue to bless and guide our steps every day.

Our church is open daily for your quiet, personal prayer before Jesus, truly present in the Tabernacle. Come and spend some time with Him.

Outside the church the noisy traffic flows past.
People rush here and there.

Anniversary of Pte Billy Kedian, DSM (Honour)

Twenty-seven years ago, Pte Billy Kedian DSM, one of our own from An Chéad Chathlán Coisithe, lost his life while saving others in Lebanon. Today, at Saint Patrick’s Garrison Church, Renmore, a huge congregation gathered to remember Billy at Holy Mass, including his sisters, Ann & Mary, their families, and Billy's friends and comrades. Serving personnel were led by Ceannasaí An Chéad Chath, Lt Col Coffey, and veterans were represented by O.N.E. Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann ONE Veterans Charity, O N E Galway Branch, and Post 30 Galway Irish United Nations Veterans Association, Irish United Nations Veterans Association.

The following text is taken from the Irish United Nations Veterans Association archives:

"On 31 May 1999, Pte William (Billy) Kedian (21), C Coy, 85 Inf Bn, was killed by shrapnel when an 81 mm mortar round exploded in post 6-42 Brash*t. Two mortar rounds had been fired from the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) and De Facto Forces (DFF) Compound W144. Two other members of the Post were wounded, Pte Ronnie Rushe (23) and Pte Darren Clarke (19).
He was on his second tour of duty with UNIFIL and his home unit was 1 Cn Cois at Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa, Galway.
His body was flown home on Friday 4 Jun and it was brought to Knock Airport by Air Corps Casa aircraft.
On Saturday 5 Jun 1999, he was buried with full military honours at Ballyhaunis Cemetery following Requiem Mass at St Patrick’s Church.
