🎉 This Sunday we are excited to gather at Whitefriar Street Church to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Carmelite presence in Zimbabwe.

In 1946, the first Carmelites from the Irish Province travelled to what was then Southern Rhodesia, responding to the missionary call of the Church with faith and generosity. What began with a small group of missionary friars has grown into a vibrant Carmelite presence within the life of the Church in Zimbabwe today.

We are honoured that Most Rev. Dermot Farrell, Archbishop of Archdiocese of Dublin, will celebrate this special anniversary Mass.

📅 Sunday, March 22
🕓 4 p.m. Mass
📍 Whitefriar Street Church, Dublin

All are warmly welcome as we give thanks for this shared story of faith, friendship, and mission between Ireland and Zimbabwe. 🙏

We were delighted to welcome Lauren Stewart and David Higgins to where Bishop Denis Nulty blessed the engaged couple at the Shrine of Saint Valentine. 💒

Hosted by the Carmelite Community and organised by ACCORD Catholic Marriage Care Service, the ceremony took place beside the reliquary containing the saint’s sacred relics — first brought to Whitefriar Street from Rome in 1836 as a gift from Pope Gregory XVI to the Carmelite Fr John Spratt. Since then, the shrine has become a place of prayer for couples and pilgrims seeking Saint Valentine’s intercession.

As Saint Valentine’s Day approaches, we keep all couples preparing for marriage in our prayers. May Saint Valentine inspire hearts to grow in kindness, faithfulness and love.

Celebrate the Feast of Saint Valentine at Whitefriar Street Church ❤️

The Carmelite community at Whitefriar Street warmly invites you to join us as we honour Saint Valentine, whose relics are lovingly preserved here in our Church. In 1836, these relics were entrusted to the Carmelite Fr John Spratt by Pope Gregory XVI in Rome and were brought to Whitefriar Street soon afterwards, where they have been venerated ever since as a sign of Christian love and faithful devotion.

On this special feast day, Bishop Paul Dempsey will be the celebrant for the 3pm Mass. During this celebration, married couples will have a beautiful opportunity to renew their vows, giving thanks for the gift of love and commitment in their lives.

Whether you are married, engaged, single, or simply wishing to pray for those you love, you are most welcome to gather with our community. Come light a candle, bring your intentions, and share in a moment of grace and blessing.

All are welcome — the Carmelite community looks forward to welcoming you in prayer.

🌹Yesterday at the 3 p.m. Mass in Whitefriar Street Church, Fr Simon Nolan, O.Carm., Prior Provincial, gathered with the faithful to honour Our Lady of Lourdes and to pray in a special way for all who are sick or suffering.

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick was celebrated, and the relic of St Bernadette was available for veneration — a quiet reminder of the hope and healing that first flowed from the grotto at Lourdes.

May Our Lady continue to intercede for all who carry illness or burden.

Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us.

Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes

To encourage us to give of our time, to support the sick and to be attentive to their needs, a World Day of the Sick was established in 1992 by Pope John Paul II. It is celebrated every year on 11th February, the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes.

This year Mass with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be celebrated at 11.30am and 3pm. The Relic of St. Bernardette of Lourdes will be present for veneration and blessing.

Prayer to Our Lady of Lourdes

O ever-Immaculate Virgin, Mother of Mercy,
health of the sick, refuge of sinners,
comforter of the afflicted,
you know my wants, my troubles, my sufferings;
look with mercy on me.
By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes,
you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary,
whence you dispense your favours;
and already many sufferers have obtained
the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal.
I come, therefore, with complete confidence
to implore your maternal intercession.
Obtain, O loving Mother, the grant of my requests.
(mention your petition)
Through gratitude for your favours,
I will endeavour to imitate your virtues,
that I may one day share your glory,
and bless you in eternity. Amen
