Culture Night Dublin FRIDAY 18.09.2026 18:00 - 22:00

The Holy Orthodox Metropolis of Ireland and the Macedonian Cultural Association of Ireland “Aristotle” (MCAIA) are delighted to welcome visitors for an original flavour of Greek culture. MCAIA functions under the aegis of the Holy Orthodox Metropolis of Ireland and this year their collaboration is set to bring an exciting contribution to Culture Night. Visitors are invited to discover Greek Orthodox heritage through a programme of guided tours and traditional dance performances.

Throughout the evening, two complementary experiences will be presented in rotation. Guided tours will explore the history of the church in Dublin and its Byzantine heritage, introducing visitors to its architecture, iconography, Byzantine chant, and the celebration of Irish Orthodox saints, while offering opportunities for discussion about the Christian faith.

Visitors can also enjoy performances of traditional Greek dances by the Macedonian Cultural Association of Ireland (MCAIA). Accompanied by a short introduction to the history and culture of the Macedonian region of Greece, the performances will bring the traditions of Greek music and dance to life, creating a vibrant celebration of Greek culture and heritage.

Dear Parishioners and Friends

As our Holy Metropolis will participate together with the Macedonian Cultural Association in this year's Culture Night, our church will be open on the evening of Friday the 18th Sept from 7 pm untill 11 pm. Visitors will come and we need to tidy up and clean, particularly our yard with all the persistent weeds among the floor tiles, corners and so on.

The Ladies of our Philoptochos are asking for volunteers to come to church and give us a hand please, from 11 am for 2-3 hours, this Saturday 12 Sept. The more we are, the quicker we will finish.. Any gardening tools to scrape the weeds you might have, please bring them with you.

Το σημερινό Ευαγγέλιο κάνει λόγο για ένα προσκλητήριο συμμετοχής σε έναν γάμο. Ο γάμος αυτός δεν είναι τίποτε άλλο παρά η συμμετοχή μας στη Βασιλεία του Θεού.

Ο Θεός μάς προσκαλεί να συμμετάσχουμε στη Βασιλεία Του και μας διαβεβαιώνει ότι «πάντα ἕτοιμά ἐστι». Όλα είναι ήδη προετοιμασμένα. Έχει θυσιαστεί ο μόσχος ο σιτευτός· υπάρχει χώρος και υπάρχει τροφή για όλους. Και αυτή η χαρά δεν έχει τέλος, αλλά είναι μία διαρκής συμμετοχή στο μεγάλο και αιώνιο γεγονός της Βασιλείας του Θεού.

Ο Θεός μάς καλεί να γίνουμε κοινωνοί της χαράς του Ουρανού, μιας χαράς που παρομοιάζεται με γάμο. Μας καλεί να κοινωνήσουμε σε όλα όσα έχει προετοιμάσει για εμάς· να γίνουμε κοινωνοί του Σώματος και του Αίματος του Χριστού. Το τραπέζι είναι έτοιμο, η πρόσκληση έχει δοθεί και η πόρτα είναι ανοικτή.

Κι όμως, εμείς πολλές φορές αποφεύγουμε να ανταποκριθούμε. Με διάφορες προφάσεις και δικαιολογίες απομακρυνόμαστε από την πρόσκληση του Θεού. Απορρίπτουμε, άλλοτε συνειδητά και άλλοτε χωρίς να το αντιλαμβανόμαστε, αυτή τη μοναδική πρόσκληση στην άπειρη αγάπη Του.

Και ο οικοδεσπότης, ο ίδιος ο Θεός, λυπάται για την άρνησή μας. Δεν παύει όμως να προσκαλεί. Η πρόσκληση συνεχίζεται. Απευθύνεται και σε άλλους ανθρώπους, και εκείνοι ανταποκρίνονται. Δέχονται την πρόσκληση, εισέρχονται στον χώρο του γάμου, συμμετέχουν στο δείπνο και γίνονται κοινωνοί της χαράς που προσφέρει η κοινωνία με τον Χριστό. Και ο Θεός χαίρεται, διότι ο άνθρωπος ανταποκρίθηκε στην αγάπη Του.

Ανάμεσα όμως σε εκείνους που ανταποκρίθηκαν στην πρόσκληση βρίσκεται και ένας άνθρωπος ο οποίος δεν είναι κατάλληλα ενδεδυμένος. Δεν έχει προετοιμαστεί. Έχει έρθει στον γάμο χωρίς το κατάλληλο ένδυμα και η παρουσία του φανερώνει ότι δεν έχει κατανοήσει το μεγαλείο της πρόσκλησης.

Το ένδυμα αυτό δεν είναι ένα εξωτερικό ένδυμα. Είναι το ένδυμα της ψυχής. Είναι η ζωή που πρέπει να αλλάξει, η καρδιά που πρέπει να μεταμορφωθεί, η προσπάθεια του ανθρώπου να γίνει δεκτικός στη χάρη του Θεού.

Γι’ αυτό και το Ευαγγέλιο τελειώνει με μία φράση ιδιαίτερα δυνατή: «Πολλοί γάρ εἰσι κλητοί, ὀλίγοι δὲ ἐκλεκτοί».

Όλοι είμαστε προσκεκλημένοι. Όλοι έχουμε λάβει το προσκλητήριο. Η πρόσκληση του Θεού δεν αποκλείει κανέναν. Το ερώτημα όμως είναι αν εμείς θα ανταποκριθούμε πραγματικά σε αυτή την πρόσκληση και αν θα προετοιμάσουμε τον εαυτό μας για τη συμμετοχή μας στη χαρά της Βασιλείας.

Η Βασιλεία του Θεού είναι ένας γάμος. Και εμείς, μέσα από το Άγιο Βάπτισμά μας, έχουμε ήδη εισέλθει σε αυτή τη σχέση κοινωνίας με τον Θεό. Το Βάπτισμα είναι η αρχή μιας νέας ζωής, μιας σχέσης αγάπης και κοινωνίας με τον Χριστό. Ο Θεός μάς καλεί να ολοκληρώσουμε αυτή την πορεία, να προχωρήσουμε από την πρόσκληση στη συμμετοχή και από την τυπική σχέση στη ζωντανή κοινωνία μαζί Του.

Και η βαθύτερη έκφραση αυτής της κοινωνίας είναι η Θεία Ευχαριστία. Εκεί κοινωνούμε το Σώμα και το Αίμα του Χριστού. Εκεί ο Χριστός γίνεται η ζωή μας και μας προσκαλεί να γίνουμε ένα μαζί Του.

Όμως δεν αρκεί απλώς να βρισκόμαστε μέσα στον χώρο του γάμου. Δεν αρκεί να είμαστε τυπικά παρόντες. Χρειάζεται να είμαστε και εσωτερικά προετοιμασμένοι.

Χρειάζεται να έχουμε ντύσει την ψυχή μας με το ένδυμα των αρετών: με αγάπη, συγχωρητικότητα, αλληλοπεριχώρηση, ανεκτικότητα απέναντι στον συνάνθρωπο, προσευχή, νηστεία και εγκράτεια. Αυτές είναι οι αρετές που βλέπουμε να ακτινοβολούν στη ζωή των Αγίων, ανθρώπων οι οποίοι δεν αρκέστηκαν στο να γνωρίζουν τον Χριστό, αλλά αγωνίστηκαν να Του μοιάσουν.

Γιατί αυτό είναι τελικά το ζητούμενο: να γίνουμε δεκτικοί στη χάρη του Θεού.

Η χάρη του Θεού προσφέρεται σε όλους. Ο Θεός δεν σταματά ποτέ να προσκαλεί. Εμείς όμως μπορεί να παραμένουμε κλειστοί, αδιάφοροι ή απροετοίμαστοι. Και τότε, ακόμη και όταν βρισκόμαστε κοντά στον Θεό, δεν μπορούμε να γευθούμε πραγματικά τη χαρά της παρουσίας Του.

Δεν αρκεί λοιπόν να θέλουμε να συμμετέχουμε στη χαρά του Θεού. Πρέπει να αγωνιστούμε ώστε η καρδιά μας να γίνει δεκτική αυτής της χαράς.

Είμαστε όλοι κλητοί. Έχουμε όλοι λάβει το προσκλητήριο. Το ερώτημα είναι αν θα γίνουμε και εκλεκτοί.

Και για να γίνουμε εκλεκτοί, χρειάζεται να προσπαθήσουμε. Να αλλάξουμε. Να γίνουμε άνθρωποι αγάπης και συγχώρησης. Άνθρωποι που εργάζονται για την ενότητα και όχι για τη διαίρεση. Άνθρωποι που προσεύχονται, που νηστεύουν, που εγκρατεύονται, που συγχωρούν και που αγαπούν.

Να γίνουμε άνθρωποι όπως μας θέλει ο Θεός.

Να μοιάσουμε στον Χριστό.

Και όταν αρχίσουμε να μοιάζουμε στον Χριστό, τότε ο Χριστός δεν θα είναι μόνο μπροστά μας ως πρότυπο· θα αρχίσει να καθρεφτίζεται μέσα στην καρδιά μας.

Τότε θα μπορούμε πραγματικά να συμμετέχουμε στον γάμο της Βασιλείας, να γευθούμε τη χαρά του Θεού και να γίνουμε κοινωνοί της αιώνιας ζωής που Εκείνος έχει ετοιμάσει για όλους.

Γιατί «πάντα ἕτοιμά ἐστι».

Η πρόσκληση έχει δοθεί.

Το τραπέζι είναι έτοιμο.

Ο Χριστός μάς περιμένει.

Ας μην αρνηθούμε την πρόσκλησή Του. Ας προετοιμάσουμε την ψυχή μας και ας εισέλθουμε με χαρά στον γάμο της Βασιλείας του Θεού.

The Gospel reading today speaks to us of an invitation to participate in a wedding feast. This wedding is nothing less than our participation in the Kingdom of God.

God invites us to enter and participate in His Kingdom, and He assures us that everything is already prepared: “All things are ready.” The fatted calf has been sacrificed; there is room and there is food for everyone. There is no end to this feast, but an everlasting participation in the great and eternal joy of the Kingdom of God.

God calls us to become partakers of the joy of Heaven, a joy which the Gospel presents to us as a wedding feast. He invites us to share in all that He has prepared for us, to become participants in the Body and Blood of Christ. The table is prepared, the invitation has been given, and the door is open.

And yet, so often, we refuse to respond. We find different excuses and reasons to remain away from the invitation of God. We reject, sometimes consciously and sometimes without even realizing it, this unique invitation to participate in the infinite love of God.

The host, who is God Himself, is saddened by our refusal. Yet He does not stop inviting us. The invitation continues. He calls others, and they respond. They accept the invitation, enter the wedding feast, take part in the banquet and become participants in the joy that comes from communion with Christ. And the host rejoices, because the human person has responded to the love of God.

Among those who accepted the invitation, however, there is one man who is not properly clothed. He has not prepared himself. He has entered the wedding feast without the appropriate garment, and his presence reveals that he has not understood the greatness of the invitation he has received.

This garment is not an external garment. It is the garment of the soul. It is the transformation of our life, the purification of our heart, and our sincere effort to become receptive to the grace of God.

This is why the Gospel concludes with the profound words:

“Many are called, but few are chosen.”

We are all invited. We have all received the invitation. The invitation of God excludes no one. The question, however, is whether we will truly respond to this invitation and prepare ourselves to participate in the joy of the Kingdom.

The Kingdom of God is presented to us as a wedding feast. And through Holy Baptism, we have already entered into a relationship of communion with God. Baptism is the beginning of a new life, a relationship of love and communion with Christ. God calls us to complete this journey, to move from receiving the invitation to truly participating in the feast, and from a merely formal relationship with God to a living communion with Him.

The deepest expression of this communion is found in the Holy Eucharist. There, we receive the Body and Blood of Christ. There, Christ becomes our life, and He invites us to become one with Him.

But it is not enough simply to be present in the wedding feast. It is not enough to be outwardly present. We must also be inwardly prepared.

We must clothe our souls with the garment of virtue: with love, forgiveness, mutual acceptance, patience and forbearance towards our fellow human beings, prayer, fasting and self-control. These are the virtues that we see shining in the lives of the Saints—men and women who were not content merely to know Christ, but who struggled to become like Him.

For this is ultimately what is asked of us: to become receptive to the grace of God.

The grace of God is offered to everyone. God never ceases to invite us. But we can remain closed, indifferent or unprepared. And then, even when we are close to God, we may be unable truly to experience the joy of His presence.

It is therefore not enough simply to desire to participate in the joy of God. We must struggle and prepare our hearts so that they may become receptive to this joy.

We are all called. We have all received the invitation. The question is whether we will also become among the chosen.

And in order to become among the chosen, we must make an effort. We must change. We must become people of love and forgiveness—people who work for unity and not for division; people who pray, who fast, who practise self-control, who forgive and who love.

Let us become the people God calls us to be.

Let us become like Christ.

And when we begin to become like Christ, Christ will no longer be only before us as our example. He will begin to be reflected within our hearts.

Then we will truly be able to participate in the wedding feast of the Kingdom, to taste the joy of God, and to become partakers of the eternal life that He has prepared for all.

For “all things are ready.”

The invitation has been given.

The table is prepared.

Christ is waiting for us.

Let us not refuse His invitation.

Let us prepare our souls and enter with joy into the wedding feast of the Kingdom of God.

Μήνυμα επί τη ενάρξει της νέας Εκκλησιαστικής Χρονιάς

1η Σεπτεμβρίου – Αρχή της Ινδίκτου

Σήμερα, 1η Σεπτεμβρίου, η Αγία μας Εκκλησία εορτάζει την Αρχή της Ινδίκτου και την έναρξη του νέου Εκκλησιαστικού Έτους.

Η ημέρα αυτή αποτελεί για την Εκκλησία μας μια σημαντική αφετηρία. Με την έναρξη της νέας Εκκλησιαστικής χρονιάς ανοίγεται ενώπιόν μας μία νέα περίοδος εκκλησιαστικής διακονίας, προσφοράς και μαρτυρίας μέσα στον σύγχρονο κόσμο.

Κέντρο της ζωής της Εκκλησίας είναι ο Χριστός. Αυτός δημιούργησε τα πάντα, Αυτός συντηρεί και ζωογονεί τον κόσμο και Αυτός προνοεί για κάθε άνθρωπο. Ο Θεός, μέσα στο πνεύμα της απόλυτης ελευθερίας και της άπειρης αγάπης Του, ζητά τη δική μας συνεργασία, ώστε να πραγματωθεί στη ζωή μας το σχέδιό Του για τη σωτηρία του ανθρώπου.

Η σωτηρία μας έχει ήδη εξασφαλισθεί από τον Χριστό με την ενανθρώπησή Του, την θυσιαστική Του ζωή, τη Σταυρική Του θυσία και την ένδοξη Ανάστασή Του. Εμείς καλούμαστε να ανταποκριθούμε σε αυτή την αγάπη και να γίνουμε συνεργοί της Χάριτος του Θεού.

Ας είναι, λοιπόν, ένας από τους βασικούς σκοπούς μας κατά τη νέα Εκκλησιαστική χρονιά που αρχίζει σήμερα να πλησιάσουμε περισσότερο τον Χριστό, να γνωρίσουμε βαθύτερα το θέλημά Του και να ζήσουμε σύμφωνα με το Άγιο θέλημά Του. Με τη χάρη του Θεού και τη δύναμη του Αγίου Πνεύματος, να αγωνισθούμε ώστε να ενωθούμε ολοένα περισσότερο με τον Χριστό, διότι αυτή είναι και η βαθύτερη επιθυμία και ο τελικός σκοπός της χριστιανικής μας ζωής.

Για τον αγώνα αυτό επικαλούμαστε τις πρεσβείες της Υπεραγίας Θεοτόκου και πάντων των Αγίων. Ιδιαίτερα σήμερα, εδώ στην Ιρλανδία, ζητούμε τις προσευχές και τις πρεσβείες των Αγίων της Εκκλησίας μας, οι οποίοι παρίστανται ενώπιον του Θεού και μεσιτεύουν για όλους μας.

Η δική μας διακονία και μαρτυρία ξεκινά πρώτα από το άμεσο περιβάλλον μας: από την οικογένειά μας, τους φίλους μας, τους ανθρώπους με τους οποίους καθημερινά συναναστρεφόμαστε, αλλά και από την ευρύτερη κοινωνία και την εκκλησιαστική μας κοινότητα.

Μέσα στην τοπική μας Εκκλησία, την Ιερά Μητρόπολή μας, οφείλουμε όλοι να εργαζόμαστε με πνεύμα αγάπης, ανιδιοτέλειας, ειρήνης και εκκλησιαστικής θυσιαστικότητας. Να ενδιαφερόμαστε ο ένας για τον άλλον, να στηρίζουμε ο ένας τον άλλον και, όπως μας διδάσκει ο Απόστολος Παύλος, να βαστάζουμε «ἀλλήλων τὰ βάρη» και έτσι να αναπληρώνουμε τον νόμο της αγάπης του Χριστού.

Θα ήθελα, λοιπόν, με την ευκαιρία της σημερινής ημέρας, να επιστήσω την προσοχή όλων μας σε ορισμένα σημεία τα οποία μπορούν να αποτελέσουν έναν απλό αλλά ουσιαστικό πνευματικό οδηγό για τη νέα Εκκλησιαστική χρονιά:

Πρώτον, να βάλουμε την προσευχή στη ζωή μας.
Να μάθουμε να επικοινωνούμε καθημερινά με τον Θεό και να αναθέτουμε σε Εκείνον τη ζωή, τις δυσκολίες, τις ανάγκες και τις ελπίδες μας.

Δεύτερον, να συμμετέχουμε στη Θεία Λειτουργία και στις Ιερές Ακολουθίες της Εκκλησίας.
Η Εκκλησία δεν είναι απλώς ένας χώρος που επισκεπτόμαστε, αλλά το σώμα του Χριστού μέσα στο οποίο καλούμαστε να ζούμε, να κοινωνούμε και να αγιαζόμαστε.

Τρίτον, να διακονούμε τους ανθρώπους.
Να προσφέρουμε χωρίς να περιμένουμε ανταπόδοση και να στεκόμαστε ιδιαίτερα δίπλα σε εκείνους που έχουν ανάγκη, είτε αυτή είναι υλική είτε πνευματική είτε ανθρώπινη.

Τέταρτον, να έχουμε πάντοτε έναν καλό λόγο για κάθε άνθρωπο.
Να αποφεύγουμε την κατάκριση, την καχυποψία και τους άσχημους λογισμούς απέναντι στους άλλους. Ο λόγος μας μπορεί να πληγώσει, αλλά μπορεί επίσης να θεραπεύσει, να παρηγορήσει και να δώσει ελπίδα.

Πέμπτον, να προσπαθήσουμε να αλλάξουμε τον τρόπο της ζωής μας.
Να αφήσουμε χώρο στη μετάνοια, η οποία δεν είναι απλώς λύπη για τα λάθη μας, αλλά μία ουσιαστική αλλαγή της ζωής και μία επιστροφή προς τον Θεό.

Και, τέλος, να στηρίξουμε με όλες μας τις δυνάμεις το έργο της Ιεράς Μητροπόλεώς μας.
Η τοπική μας Εκκλησία είναι ευθύνη όλων μας. Ο καθένας, ανάλογα με τις δυνατότητες και τα χαρίσματά του, μπορεί και πρέπει να προσφέρει. Με την προσευχή του, την παρουσία του, τον χρόνο του, την εργασία του, την αγάπη του και, όπου υπάρχει δυνατότητα, και με την οικονομική του συνεισφορά.

Η Ιερά Μητρόπολή μας στην Ιρλανδία βρίσκεται ενώπιον μιας μεγάλης αποστολής. Χρειαζόμαστε τη συμμετοχή και τη συμπαράσταση όλων, ώστε να οικοδομήσουμε μία ζωντανή, δυναμική και ενωμένη τοπική Εκκλησία, η οποία θα μαρτυρεί τον Χριστό με λόγο και έργο και θα αποτελεί πνευματικό σπίτι για κάθε άνθρωπο που αναζητά τον Θεό.

Με την ευκαιρία της έναρξης της νέας Εκκλησιαστικής χρονιάς, εύχομαι ολόψυχα ο Κύριός μας Ιησούς Χριστός να ευλογεί όλους μας, να ενισχύει την πίστη μας, να χαρίζει ειρήνη στις οικογένειές μας και υγεία και δύναμη σε κάθε άνθρωπο.

Είθε η νέα Εκκλησιαστική χρονιά να είναι για όλους μας μία χρονιά πνευματικής ανανέωσης, περισσότερης προσευχής, βαθύτερης μετάνοιας, έμπρακτης αγάπης και ουσιαστικότερης συμμετοχής στη ζωή της Εκκλησίας.

Με τις πρεσβείες της Υπεραγίας Θεοτόκου, των Αγίων μας και ιδιαίτερα των Αγίων που έζησαν και μαρτύρησαν σε αυτή την ευλογημένη γη της Ιρλανδίας, ας πορευθούμε όλοι μαζί με πίστη, ενότητα και αγάπη προς τον Χριστό.

Message on the Beginning of the New Ecclesiastical Year

1 September – The Beginning of the Indiction

Today, 1 September, our Holy Church celebrates the Beginning of the Indiction and the commencement of the new Ecclesiastical Year.

This day is an important starting point for our Church. With the beginning of the new Ecclesiastical Year, a new period of ecclesiastical ministry, service, offering, and witness in the contemporary world begins before us.

The centre of the life of the Church is Christ. He created all things; He sustains and gives life to the world, and He cares for every human being. God, in a spirit of perfect freedom and infinite love, invites us to cooperate with Him, so that His plan for the salvation of every human person may be fulfilled in our lives.

Our salvation has already been secured by Christ through His Incarnation, His sacrificial life, His Crucifixion and His glorious Resurrection. We are called to respond to this love and to become co-workers with the grace of God.

Let it therefore be one of our principal aims during this new Ecclesiastical Year, which begins today, to draw closer to Christ, to know His will more deeply, and to live according to His holy commandments. Through the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit, let us strive to become ever more united with Christ, for this is the deepest calling and ultimate purpose of our Christian life.

For this spiritual journey, we invoke the intercessions of the Most Holy Theotokos and of all the Saints. Especially here in Ireland, we ask for the prayers and intercessions of the Saints of our Church who stand before God and intercede for all of us.

Our own ministry and witness must begin with our immediate surroundings: within our families, among our friends, with the people with whom we come into contact every day, and also within the wider society and our ecclesiastical community.

Within our local Church, our Holy Metropolis, we are all called to work with a spirit of love, selflessness, peace and ecclesiastical sacrifice. We must care for one another, support one another and, as the Apostle Paul teaches us, “bear one another’s burdens”, thereby fulfilling the law of Christ’s love.

On this occasion, I would therefore like to draw everyone’s attention to several points which can serve as a simple but meaningful spiritual guide for the new Ecclesiastical Year:

First, let us make prayer a part of our daily lives.
Let us learn to communicate with God every day and entrust to Him our lives, our difficulties, our needs and our hopes.

Second, let us participate in the Divine Liturgy and in the Holy Services of the Church.
The Church is not simply a place that we visit. It is the Body of Christ, in which we are called to live, to participate, to receive Holy Communion and to be sanctified.

Third, let us serve our fellow human beings.
Let us offer without expecting anything in return and stand especially beside those who are in need—whether materially, spiritually or simply in need of human companionship and support.

Fourth, let us always have a good word for every person.
Let us avoid condemnation, suspicion and negative thoughts towards others. Our words can wound, but they can also heal, comfort and give hope.

Fifth, let us strive to change our way of life.
Let us make room for repentance. Repentance is not merely sorrow for our mistakes; it is a genuine transformation of our lives and a return towards God.

And finally, let us support with all our strength the work of our Holy Metropolis.
Our local Church is a responsibility shared by all of us. Each person, according to his or her abilities and gifts, can and should contribute—with prayer, presence, time, work, love and, where possible, financial support.

Our Holy Metropolis here in Ireland stands before a great mission. We need the participation and support of everyone so that together we may build a living, vibrant and united local Church—one that bears witness to Christ in word and deed and serves as a spiritual home for every person who seeks God.

As we begin this new Ecclesiastical Year, I pray wholeheartedly that our Lord Jesus Christ will bless us all, strengthen our faith, grant peace to our families, and give health and strength to every person.

May this new Ecclesiastical Year be for all of us a year of spiritual renewal, deeper prayer, genuine repentance, practical love and a more meaningful participation in the life of the Church.

Through the intercessions of the Most Holy Theotokos, of all the Saints, and especially of the Saints who lived and bore witness to Christ upon this blessed land of Ireland, may we all journey together in faith, unity and love towards Christ.

A blessed and fruitful new Ecclesiastical Year to you all!
