We had a fantastic session with a full house at the art session in Egan House on Thursday. Participants loved the opportunity to be immersed in art for 90 minutes. We're already nearly booked out for Thursday week, where more mixed-media art will take place with Nathalie from Once Upon a Hill Art Studio.

If you find it hard to focus when you pray – if your mind drifts off into lists of things to do, or the worries that follow you throughout the day and the night – then it may help to pray with your body as well as your mind. CMHI has developed a series of prayers that use our hands in various ways; this reminds us to give thanks for our bodies, and to see ourselves holistically, as beings of both flesh and spirit. The prayers are particularly suitable for children and young people who are developing their prayer life and find it helpful to use physical actions as they pray. The prayers are: the labyrinth prayer; the prayer of letting go; square breathing prayer; prayer for 5 people on 5 fingers in 5 minutes. Continuing with the theme of compassion - God's compassion and self-compassion, I want to share this beautiful prayer, which I love. It is based on the "Suscipe me," which is a prayer said by a novice who enters a Benedictine Community. I know this is one that I'll be turning to during the stress and strain of daily life, especially in the evenings on looking back over all that has happened during the day.

I made elderflower and lemon curd. It is delicious. My eldest son is very dubious about my plan to share it with the Under the Tree participants tonight, but he was satisfied when I told him I would leave him a dollop on a scone.

I'm reflecting on 'O taste and see that the Lord is good' from Psalm 34:8 and wondering about a deeper knowing of God's goodness - as woven in to who we are as our tastebuds.

If there's any left over (unlikely) we'll sample it again at the Art Sessions in Dublin 7, which is just about booked out.

I'm reading Silent Compassion: Finding God in Contemplation, by Richard Rohr, at the moment, and there are so many paragraphs that fill me with food for thought. This one spoke particularly to me today. The idea of silence disclosing the "fullness of the now" is profoundly important.

I've been thinking a lot about compassion lately, as I'm preparing for Lydia's wonderful new online series, God's Compassion; Self-Compassion. Knowing when to take something is often hard for us - we feel more comfortable in giving. But accepting God's compassion may be an important first step in learning to be more compassionate to ourselves - and to others. This prayer reminds us that God's love and forgiveness are "there for the taking". Amen
