Happy 200th Birthday Booterstown National School

Yes! Another big, roundy birthday! Booterstown National School was founded in 1826 and we are celebrating its 200th Anniversary!

A little reminder that this coming Sunday, we will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of the foundation of Booterstown National School. Everyone in both parishes is very welcome, and particularly, but not exclusively so, if you have been a pupil, parent, teacher or Board of Management member at any stage in Booterstown National School. Please spread the word far and wide, as we do not have contact details for all whom have been involved in the school.

8.30 Holy Communion in St Thomas’ Church
10.30 United Service of Thanksgiving for 200 years of Booterstown National School, in St Philip and St James’ Church

St Philip and St James' Sunday Club Prize-giving
The final session of this 'season' of St Philip and St James' Sunday Club will take place this Sunday. The Sunday Club will be on a summer break for June, July and August, and will resume in September. The prize-giving for attendance and participation in St Philip and St James' Sunday Club will take place this Sunday when the children and their leaders join the rest of the congregation in church.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Sunday Club leaders: Gillian Morrow, Stefanie O'Brien-Feeney and Joanne Sherry for their time, energy and creativity for our young people.

Blessing of the Animals
A reminder that this service will take place, as usual, on Sunday 24th May 2026 at 10.30 in St Philip and St James' Church. All animals are welcome! As are their owners! Please ensure that you keep your pets under control - we do not want any unplanned eating episodes where, for example, someone's budgie becomes some cat's mid-morning snack!

Pooper-scooper rules will apply! Please clean up after your animal if it poops or wees in the church!

There will be tea/coffee/juice afterwards and bowls of water for the animals!

This coming Wednesday (18th February 2026) is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.

We have two services in our group of parishes on Ash Wednesday...
10.30 Holy Communion in St Thomas’ Church, followed by a cuppa at the back of the church.
19.00 Holy Communion in St Philip and St James’ Church.

Lent is the season of preparation for Easter and it is a time of self-reflection and evaluation. It is also a time of caring... for one’s well-being (physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually and for caring for others. People do that in a number of ways... reflection and repentance, prayer, fasting or self-discipline - remember those Lents when you gave up sweets or chocolate?! - charity and helping others.

Some give something up and some take something on.

And some do a Lenten Challenge... like Gillian!
This year, she is walking/cross-training/cycling/rowing at least 5km every day of Lent 2026.
She will be using a variety of ways to move to ensure that the plantar fasciitis that she had for 18 months does not re-appear!

Wednesday 18th February – Saturday 4th April 2026 inclusive!

This year, Gillian will be doing the Challenge for my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing and for .house and

Lenten Challenge
Gillian is off again!

This year, she is walking/cross-training/cycling/rowing at least 5km every day of Lent 2026.

Wed 18th February – Sat 4th April 2026 inclusive!

Lent is the season for examining ourselves and seeing how we can more fully reflect the life and love of Christ and his commandment to us to love our neighbour as ourselves. That means respecting and caring for others and for ourselves.

This Lent, Gillian is encouraging people to take up something that gives you a focus each day and that benefits you physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Gillian will be doing the Challenge for her physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing and for Pieta House and Aware.
house PIETA HOUSE provides professional counselling, support and education to those experiencing suicidal thoughts, self-harming behaviour and to those impacted by su***de and self-harm.

AWARE supports people going through depression.

Come and walk 5km with me…
on Saturdays in Lent, starting at 10am. We will do a different walk each Saturday. It’s not a race, but an opportunity to walk and chat but the chat bit won’t be compulsory! – you might be someone who likes to walk in silence - and that is fine too!
