St Mary's Haddington Road

St Mary's Haddington Road A Dublin city center Roman Catholic parish founded in 1876. St. Good liturgy is primary in St. Fachtna McCarthy
Curate: Rev. Patrick Claffey

Mary's Church is one of the most important churches in the Dublin Diocese and dates from 1839, just ten years after Catholic Emancipation. The known history of the church indicates it was built through the sacrifices and faith of those who had suffered in Penal times. The church has served the people well over the years and the people in turn have lovingly looked after it. St.Mary's still retains

all its beauty and continues to draw admiring comments from visitors from around the world. Mary's and we work under the principle that if a parish is alive, the liturgy is alive. All our liturgies unfold slowly and deliberately with a focus on developing a sense of community and celebration. I’ve had the privilege and the pleasure of teaching this wonderful group of young French women, Léa, Chloé, et Alice over the past several months in preparation for, Baptism , Confirmation and First Communion in a lovely ceremony at St Mary’s today. The music included the marvellous Congolese Litany sung by our French choir.

As Advent approaches and leads us to Christmas, St. Mary's resident choir – Crux Vocal Ensemble – will once again perform a beautiful and meditative concert of music.

Join us on Monday December 1st at 7pm to hear Benjamin Britten's timeless 'A Ceremony of Carols', performed by Crux and harpist Clíona Doris. Enjoy carols from Ireland, Spain and further afield, including Rachmaninov's beautiful setting of the Ave Maria (from his 'Vespers'), a sweet 'Lully, Lulla' by contemporary composer Philip Stopford, Fiontán Ó Cearbhaill's 'Suantraí ár Slánaitheora' and a rousing 'O Come O Come Emmanuel' to conclude.

The candlelight concert, which will last around an hour, will also include poetry, readings and candles blessed by Fr. Miron. A mulled wine reception will follow.

Tickets (€20/25) are available through Ticketstop, a trusted Irish ticketing company, here:

I went back to the Mainie Jellet Evie Hone exhibition to look at it in more detail. I loved these pieces of beautiful stained glass, all by Hone, perfectly presented. I’ll certainly go back again.

The French-speaking Chaplaincy in Dublin, which is based at St Mary’s,is holding its annual Lenten penitential service in the lovely chapel in UCD, organised by a very dynamic French student group. The chapel features a very striking portrait of John Henry Newman (1801-1890) a major figure in university education and particularly in Dublin, founding the Catholic University of Ireland in 1854, which later became University College Dublin

Could any in our parish help Catrina to get her fundraising over the €10K line for her cousin and the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association?

This time a week ago we were singing beautiful music and celebrating my brave and inspirational cousin Sinead.

To date the campaign has raised close to €8500, we are so determined to try and reach our goal of €10,000 before Dec 31st!

I still have media interviews coming up and Jannie Broadcasts has her big walk up Moel Famau to come too.

If you can help us to meet our goal either by sharing or donating or with publicity we would be so grateful!
