Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann - Belfast 2026!
Our Deus et Patria team of Young Adult Legionaries engaged in a 3-day project of evangelisation at the Fleadh in Belfast. We were joined over the course of the project by a good number of Legionaries local to Belfast and beyond, and a number of others.
An estimated 1.65 million people attended the Fleadh, and we reached out to as many of those as we could during our time there.
We held a special event on Friday called 'The Story of Ireland' at which Bishop Alan McGuckian spoke, and those among us who were musicians and singers performed. Such was the interest in this event that the attendance of over 100 people exceeded the capacity of the pastoral centre.
On Saturday we invited people into the Church for an encounter of Eucharistic Adoration and confession and to light a candle for their prayer intention, as music was played. 393 candles were lit over that evening.
We gave thousands of miraculous medals to Fleadh attendees, to Catholics, Protestants, those of other religions, and none, from all parts of Ireland and further afield and encouraged them towards faith and the church. We had deep conversations with many. In a city with a history of such conflict and division, witnessing people coming together in a celebration of culture and tradition, and we undertaking an active apostolate there to promote faith, peace, and unity, was incredible.
