John 19:28-30 - After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” 29 A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

The ultimate work for our salvation is already done. You don't have to earn it, you just have to rest in His finished work today.

The world tells us that success should always be moving "up and to the right" 📈 But the Gospel looks entirely different. It’s an inverted arch—a giant "U." It’s God stepping down into our mess, into our reality, and our lowest moments, and He redeeming us from our sins.

God’s mission cannot fail, so we go with urgency and confidence.

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” (Revelation 7:9–10).

The Great Commission is the Church’s primary mandate from Christ—as urgent today as when he first gave it.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18–20)

A revelation of God’s grace and compassion propels us to proclaim him to the nations.

1In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” . . . 5And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost. . . .” 6Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal . . . 7And he touched my mouth and said: “. . . Your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.” 8And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” (Isaiah 6:1–3, 5–8).

People from all nations and generations will proclaim God’s righteousness and Christ’s finished work.

1“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” . . . 27All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you. . . . 30Posterity shall serve him; it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation; 31they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn, that he has done it. (Psalm 22:1, 27, 30–31).

God’s covenant with Abraham reveals his unchanging purpose—to bring redemption and blessing to all nations through Christ.

Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation . . . and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12:1–3).

From the garden to the nations, God’s plan has always been to fill the world with redeemed worshipers.

And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Genesis 1:28)
