R.I.P Fr Mc Shane, C.C Lettermacaward 1969-1975
The Diocese of Raphoe regrets to announce the death of Very Reverend Dermot McShane on Sunday 13th September 2026 at Letterkenny University Hospital, Letterkenny, Co Donegal.
Fr. McShane was the former Parish Priest of Killaghtee (Bruckless), Co. Donegal.
Fr McShane was born on 16th April 1934.
He received his primary education in Teelin, Co Donegal and his Secondary Education in Summerhill College, Sligo and St Eunan’s College, Letterkenny.
He studied for the Priesthood at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth and then at the Pontifical Irish College in Rome. He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Raphoe on 22nd March 1958 in the Basilica of St John Lateran, Rome.
His ministry was carried out in the following places:
Raphoe Town (Aug – Sept 1958)
St Eunan’s College (1958 – 1959)
CC, Drimarone (1959 – 1960)
Chaplain, Colaiste Bríde (1960 – 1961)
Ard Scoil Mhuire, Derrybeg (1961 – 1966)
CC, Ardara (1966 – 1969)
CC, Leitirmacaward (1969 – 1975)
CC, Fintown (1975 – 1983)
PP, Kilcar (1983 – 1991)
PP, Killaghtee, Bruckless, (1991 – 2012).
Fr. McShane’s remains will be received into the Church of St Conal and St Joseph, Bruckless on Tuesday 15th September at 5pm to repose until Rosary at 8pm. Requiem Mass on Wednesday 16th September at 12noon followed by burial in the grounds of St Columba’s Church, Carrick.
