The Holy Trinity
When we bless ourselves, we say, In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, mentioning the three persons of the Trinity. As Christians we believe that there are three persons in the one God. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The One God exists simultaneously in three ways of being. Each of the divine persons, is the essence of God. These Persons are distinguished from one another only by their relationship to one another. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.

Glanmire Parish Newsletter 24 May 2026

Pentecost

Today is the Feast of the Pentecost. The Day when the Holy Spirit descended from Heaven and filled the Apostles with wisdom, understanding, right judgement, courage, knowledge, awe in the presence of God and holiness. On our Confirmation Day we receive the Holy Spirit in a special way. While we were baptised with water and the Holy Spirit, the full significance of this only comes to light when we are preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation. This is when we learn about the gifts of the Spirit and the fruits of the Spirit. If we recognise the gifts and fruits of the spirit in our lives and in the lives of those about us through belief, trust and following the way of Jesus Christ then the Holy Spirit become more a reality in our lives. God has a predetermined plan for each of us. A plan which we would not have dreamed about or thought about ourselves. But it is our acceptance of the gifts of Holy Spirit that enables us to answer God’s call and deal with animosity, hardship and persecution. To God be honour and glory forever. May he fill us with hope and with the power of the Holy Spirit. Lord you are our help and salvation.

The office will be closed next Tuesday 26th May, open as normal on Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00am – 1.00pm.

The Fruits of the Holy Spirit

How do recognise the fruits on the Holy Spirit in your life.

One way is to think of someone in your life who shows the fruits of the spirit in action. Maybe it is your Mum or Dad or grandmother or grandmother or all of them. Think of the way they love you unconditionally. Think of a person who is always or mostly joyful and when you meet them you feel better afterwards. Think of a person who is at peace with themselves even though their life is tough. Think of a person who is kind, not just because they give you something but because they are there for you, they give you their time. All these people that you have started to think about may also be patient with you, faithful to you when things get rough, gentle with you when others are nasty, and these people are invariably self-controlled. They are consistent, they do not change with the latest whim. You may have been thinking about one person or you may be lucky enough to know and have many people in your life who show the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Treasure them. And of course, you may be a person that others recognise as having some or all of these attributes. If you let the Holy Spirit become a more obvious presence in your life then the fruits of the Spirit will become a reality for you.
Annual Grotto Procession

Reflection
Recognising Jesus in the ordinary circumstances of our daily lives. How many times do we not recognise Jesus being present to us in the actions of a friend or a lucky encounter with a stranger. Have you ever been helped by somebody you have never meet before unexpectantly? Have you ever been at mass or eucharistic adoration when a solution to a problem you have being praying about suddenly comes to you?
Have you ever brought your petitions to the Lord to the foot of the cross and felt that Jesus was present in a special way and was listening to you and was speaking to you through your conscience.
Revisit such moments today and feel how the two disciples felt when they recognised Jesus at the breaking of bread at the Inn on the road to Emmaus.
Recognise Jesus in the ordinary circumstances of our daily lives.
This prayer has special relevance at this time when many of us feel like the bewildered disciples on the road to Emmaus before they recognised Christ.
‘May Jesus Christ, who has already defeated death and opened for us the way to eternal salvation, dispel the darkness of our suffering humanity and lead us into the light of His glorious day, a day that knows no end.’

Reflection

Today is the Sunday of Divine Mercy. I have had the privilege of visiting the Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy in Lagiewnicki in the suburb of Krakow in Poland four times and I am always surprised by this sense of peace, forgiveness and healing when you witness the nuns reciting the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy at 3pm in the Convent chapel.

On this Sunday of Divine Mercy, feel being in the presence of the Holy Spirit like the Early Christians in the Temple of Jerusalem and their celebration of the breaking of bread in their homes on a daily basis. Give thanks to Sr. Faustyna who had a vision of the Risen Lord with two shafts of light, red and white, streaming from his heart as the fount of Mercy which has brought many people back or closer to the Risen Lord.

Believe even though you have not seen. If we believe and trust in God’s forgiveness, mercy and healing, we will be freed from the death of sin.

We would ask people to please return your Trócaire boxes to the sacristy or the parish office.
