Old Kilcrumper Graveyard Friends Association

Old Kilcrumper Graveyard Friends Association A voluntary association of ordinary people in the Fermoy community dedicated to the restoration and improvement of the Old Kilcrumper Graveyard of Fermoy.

Initially this involves the clean-up of the cemetery, laying of stone chippings etc. organized community days and will lead to a long term maintenance schedule. Eventually we intend to document the graves, to be used as a free historical and genealogical resource for all.

While we are getting quite a lot of work done on our clean-up days, we are also having a bit of banter and lots of chat and making new friends while swinging shovels, rakes and pick axes. It is so gratifying to see the community taking on such an important task as caring for our loved-ones' resting place.

Some of the work completed yesterday, September 30th. A great job was done by all. Even though there were a few sprinkles, the weather held off and everybody worked together with the benefit of a growing experience.

Feeding time at Old Kilcrumper Graveyard on yesterday's clean-up. Thanks a million to Payam of Bella Cafe, McCurtain Street, ably assisted by Nuala Fitzgibbon, for the greatly appreciated lunch. Pizzas were delicious!

Robert Butterworth is heading up the fundraising committee. If anyone else would like to help him by becoming part of that committee please contact him on 086-3893937. Also, if anyone has ideas for fundraising events or would like to offer to organise one or anything else, please give him a ring.

Mr Tom Kavanagh and his son, Conor, are donating a container to us to store tools for our clean up days. This will mean a lot for our group as it means we will have access to those tools on any day other than the organized events. We will need to paint it to make it blend in. What sort of paint job is still to be decided but initial ideas are a natural green or some kind of appropriate mural (if any artists would like to give their time). John is hoping to get the container installed for Saturday September 30th, but nothing is confirmed yet.

Don't forget our first ever flag Day on October 5th. If anybody would like to volunteer an hour of collecting please contact P.J. on 087-6498294. The only way we will be able to get in much needed funds is with the help of the general public. The more collecters we have, the more places we can cover. Other than that, please give what you can.

Hi all, the next big clean up day is set for Saturday September 30th. As usual we will start around 9am and finish when we run out of stones. Again we are operating on a come and go as you like basis. Brendan O'Meara and brothers are sponsoring the stone chippings this time around and Bella Cafe has kindly sponsored lunch for the troops. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and we can get as much done as we did our last two organized days. Hope to see you all there for some good work, a bit of banter and a lot of satisfaction in a good job done for a worthy cause.

Thanks to everyone who came to the Kilcrumper clean-up day on Saturday September 16th. Thanks also to all of those that sponsored the day. As you can see by the photos, a lot of work was done, but it was done in a very relaxed manner. Many chats were had over a shovel or a cup of tea. In the few hours we were there, some staying, some coming and going, we restored probably 35 or 40 graves and the spaces in between.

Our next clean up day is next Saturday week, the 16th of September 2017. Gates open at 9am. Come and go as you like, do as much or as little as you like. Any help, any time or effort given will be appreciated. We need the whole community to get behind this worthwhile project. It's going to take some time to complete the restoration of our graveyard, and then maintain it and it will take the community of Fermoy to make it a success. Hope we will see you there on the day.
