Today we remember St. Ciarán the abbot, one of the twelve Irish disciples who studied under St. Finnian 🙏

When Ciarán left for his studies, his family sent their favourite cow with him as a gift for the monastery he would attend.

After she died, the saint kept her hide as a relic for his own priory - Clonmacnoise. It has been attributed with many miracles, with legend saying that anyone who dies while lying on it will be sent straight to heaven.

Today we celebrate the feast of St. Teresa of Calcutta.

St. Teresa known as “Mother Teresa” dedicated her life to helping the sick and the poor and founded The Missionaries of Charity Order.

She was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 19th 2003 and canonised by Pope Francis on September 4th 2016.

Today we remember St. Mac Nissi (or Oengus)

When he was born, Oengus was baptised by St. Patrick at a Holy Fountain that sprang from the earth.

He studied under St. Patrick and his disciples growing up, and was gifted with the power of healing.

One evening, a woman went to hit young Oengus to reprimand him for falling asleep at work, whereupon her arm became powerless and limp. Only after the young saint had prayed over the woman was the strength in her limb restored.

St. Gregory the Great, Roman noble who was Prefect of the City before becoming a monk. As pope, he established a pattern for the papacy in years to come, calling himself 'servant of the servants of Christ'. He sent missions to Lombardy, Sardinia and England. Patron of musicians.

It will be an hour of resting with Jesus, asking Him for help in our everyday lives or with any heavy burdens we must carry

East Cork Camino of Faith, Hope and Friendship

The third stage of the inter-parish Camino takes place on Saturday 5th September from Castlemartyr to Ballintotis.

This stage will be guided, and pilgrims are asked to stay together as a group as they walk along the guided route after Mass.

The stage will begin with Mass in Castlemartyr at 10.00 a.m.

10.30 a.m. - pilgrims walk as a group via the Hotel resort to Mitchell’s Wood entrance.

10.45 a.m. - depart Mitchell’s Wood entrance on Ladysbridge road to Ballyoughtera church ruin and graveyard.

11.15 a.m. - prayer and brief presentation on the historical significance of Ballyoughtera.

11.30 a.m. - proceed as a guided group to Ballintotis church for concluding prayer, followed by refreshments in Ballintotis Community Centre.

A prayer petition box will be available in both churches.

All welcome to participate at any time of this stage of the East Cork Camino 2026.

Today we celebrate the memorial of the Passion of Saint John the Baptist, the one sent to prepare the way for the Lord who dies a martyr's death - his last act of witness to Christ.

He is patron saint of baptism, bird dealers, converts, lambs, monastics, printers, tailors and he is honored as a priest, prophet and a saint.
