🌿 Celebrating the Season of Creation in Kilmore Diocese 🌿

Some lovely photographs taken after this morning’s Season of Creation Mass in the Cathedral of St Patrick & St Felim, Cavan, with Bishop Martin Hayes and members of the Laudato Si Kilmore Care of Creation Group.

The Mass, celebrated by Bishop Martin and broadcast live on RTÉ One, brought together people from across the Diocese of Kilmore and highlighted the important work being undertaken in our parishes to care for creation, protect biodiversity and respond to the call of Laudato Si’ to care for our common home.

🙏 Our thanks to all who prepared and participated in today’s liturgy, to those who joined us in the Cathedral, and to everyone who shared in the celebration through the RTÉ broadcast.

May today’s celebration encourage us all to continue making care for creation part of the life and mission of our parish communities. 🌱🌍

Greetings from Wales!

A message from Bishop Martin Hayes to all the people of the Diocese of Kilmore:

“Greetings from Porth Clais, near St David’s in Wales. I am remembering and praying for you all as I follow in the footsteps of St Maedhóg and St David along this ancient pilgrimage route.”

Bishop Martin is pictured with his fellow pilgrims, Bishop Ger Nash of Ferns and Tom Higgins, as they retrace a journey which recalls the historic connection between St Maedhóg of Kilmore — also known as St Aidan of Ferns — and his mentor, St David.

🙏 Bishop Martin is also pictured at St Non’s Oratory, near the town of St David’s. Built in 1935, the little oratory incorporates stones from a number of Christian sites and stands close to the traditional birthplace of St David. St Non was the mother of St David, and the site has long been associated with pilgrimage and prayer.

As Bishop Martin continues this journey along the Welsh coast, we remember the ancient bonds of faith linking Kilmore, Ferns and St David’s and the Christian heritage which we continue to share.

St Maedhóg, St David and St Non, pray for us. 🙏

🥾 **Bishop Martin Hayes retraces the journey of St Maedhóg to St David in Wales**

**Bishop Martin Hayes, Bishop of Kilmore, writes from Wales, where he is retracing the footsteps of St Maedhóg of Kilmore:**

“This weekend I began a special pilgrimage retracing the journey of **St Maedhóg of Kilmore (St Aidan of Ferns)** to his mentor, **St David of Wales**.

St Maedhóg completed his formation with St David before returning to Ireland and undertaking his mission in Ferns, where he became its first bishop. This pilgrimage celebrates that ancient and important connection between **Kilmore, Ferns and St David’s**.

⛴️ On Sunday, I travelled with **Bishop Ger Nash of Ferns**, soon to become Bishop of Ferns and Ossory, and our friend **Tom Higgins**, by ferry from Rosslare to Fishguard. We are following the historic pilgrimage route through the beautiful Pembrokeshire countryside towards St David’s.

Today, Monday 31 August, our pilgrimage takes us to **St David’s Cathedral**, site of the pre-Reformation Catholic Cathedral, where we will be welcomed by Bishop Wyn Evans, former Bishop of St David’s. Our visit also includes **St Non’s Retreat Centre**, built in honour of St Non, the mother of St David.

For me, this pilgrimage is about returning to the **sources of inspiration of St Maedhóg/St Aidan** — imagining him walking this Welsh coastline in the company of St David, looking across the Irish Sea towards the land to which he would return with renewed conviction for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We hope that this journey will pave the way for a future pilgrimage involving the **people of Kilmore and Ferns**, celebrating the spiritual heritage we share.

Please keep us in your prayers as we continue this journey.” 🙏
