It's much more than a piece of paper.

For the people of Karzarh in Liberia, their customary land deed is an important step in protecting their land and having a stronger voice in its future.

And something else has been changing.

Women are taking a more active role in decisions about community land. One woman has been appointed Chairperson of the Community Land Development and Management Committee, made up equally of women and men.

It's about a community securing its land.

Imagine spending a cold winter night outside an embassy, not knowing when you will be able to go home.

For more than a month, more than 30 Nigerians had been sleeping outside the Nigerian Embassy in Pretoria.

The Archdiocese of Pretoria's ministry for migrants and refugees visited them, listened to their situation and offered practical support. When the team returned a week later, there was welcome news: the Nigerian government had begun the process of helping those remaining return home.
For people who had been waiting with uncertainty, the news brought visible relief and joy.

Living Water – Season of Creation
Care for creation is an important part of our mission as MSHR. It is something we are called to live in simple and practical ways, with gratitude for the beautiful world God has given us.

Today, we in Cavan were very happy to take part in the national Mass for the Season of Creation in the Cathedral of Saints Patrick and Felim, celebrated by Bishop Martin Hayes and broadcast live on RTÉ One.

We are grateful to Bishop Martin for his commitment to the care of creation, both in the Diocese of Kilmore and through his work as the Irish bishops' Laudato Si’ Coordinator.

We were especially drawn to the beautiful Creation Garden prepared by the Cavan Creation Group. There was water at the centre, surrounded by moss, ferns, grasses, flowers, berries and a little fish. It was simple, but it said a lot.
For us, this is more than an environmental concern. Care for creation belongs within our mission and our Christian vocation. It invites gratitude, responsibility and practical action in the way we live and in the choices we make as communities.

Water gives life. Creation is a gift. And we have a part to play in caring for it.

It was also encouraging to see how this concern for creation is being put into practice across the Diocese. Initiatives such as the 30% Return to Nature of church grounds by 2030, biodiversity projects in parishes, etc. are small but meaningful ways of caring for the world around us.

We are grateful to have shared in today's celebration and to bring a little of that experience to our wider community.
May the theme of Living Water continue to inspire us to become people who nurture life, protect creation and bring hope and renewal to our world.

Why are the sisters being fed?

When I first saw this beautiful moment from the final vows ceremony of our three newly professed sisters, I wondered the same thing.

So I asked our sister from Cameroon to explain.

She told me:

“This is the feeding ritual. A Nso ritual where the mothers of a new bride prepare her for her new duties as wife and mother. They feed her to give her strength for the journey and as an example so that she can in turn feed her family well.”

And I thought how meaningful this was given that these three sisters have just given their definitive “yes” to Christ. And here they are — being fed for the journey. What a powerful reminder that vocation is never lived by our own strength.

We receive so that we can give. We are nourished so that we can nourish others.

We are loved so that we can become instruments of love.

The Christian mothers who feed these sisters are reminding them, in a very tangible way:

“Receive strength for the journey. And what you have received, give to others.”

May these newly professed sisters be strengthened for the beautiful journey ahead 🤍

Have you ever watched something and wondered, “Why are they doing that?”

That was me when I received a video clip from the final vows ceremony of our three newly professed sisters.

One moment caught my attention: the Christian mothers of the parish were feeding the sisters.

So I asked our sister from Cameroon to explain what was happening.

She told me:

“This is the feeding ritual. A Nso ritual where the mothers of a new bride prepare her for her new duties as wife and mother. They feed her to give her strength for the journey and as an example so that she can in turn feed her family well.”

Suddenly, the moment became so much more meaningful.

The ritual is about preparing someone for a new journey — giving her strength, nourishment and an example of what she is called to become.

And isn't there something beautiful about seeing this at the final profession of religious vows?

These three sisters have given their definitive “yes” to Christ.

And before they go forward, they are fed.

It is a beautiful reminder that no vocation is lived on our own strength.

We receive before we give. We are nourished before we can nourish others.

And what we receive — love, faith, prayer, encouragement, the support of community and, above all, Christ Himself — is ultimately not meant to stop with us.

We are nourished so that we can become nourishment for others.

May these three newly professed sisters always remember the love surrounding them on this day.

And may they go forward strengthened for the journey, ready to pour out for others the love they have received. ❤️

Dolly inspired many generations with her style, music, story, life and above all the magical beautiful voice that acts like a balm to a person's soul. Her voice could make you laugh, smile, cry, wonder, imagine and the list goes on and on. She lived her life to the full, touching lives with art, now she leaves a legacy to be cherished as always and for all time. We mourn because it's the end of an era. Rest in Peace, and may the angels welcome you to paradise.

These three sisters are students, with their own busy schedules, pressures and commitments. Yet somewhere in the middle of it all, they found time to sing, play, create and praise God. 🎶

It makes you wonder: What are we doing with the little pockets of time we have?

Recreation doesn't always have to mean switching off. Sometimes it can mean discovering a gift, creating something beautiful, encouraging others, learning something new, or simply using what we enjoy to honour God.

It doesn't have to be music. It could be cooking, gardening, writing, creating, serving, helping someone, or bringing joy to those around you.
