The Riches of the World or God?

It’s interesting how often we desire earthly possessions. Even if you had every treasure in the world all to yourself, this could not fill the longing in your heart. There is one thing and one thing alone that fills the void within you and that is the Lord and His holy Will. Nothing else suffices, yet we often work so hard at gaining more and more of the things that pass away (See Diary #1632).
Spend time today imagining that you obtained a superabundance of wealth. What would this do to your life? Would it make you happy? Perhaps it would be fun, interesting, exciting, and entertaining…at least for a while. But the truth is that nothing can fill the void in your heart except God. Yes, there is a void that needs to be filled. You feel it and are always seeking to fill it. Do so with God and His Mercy. You will find that what you have desired all along is free for the receiving.
Lord, You are my riches and wealth. You must become all that I desire in life. Give me the grace to believe this truth and to choose You as the fulfillment of all my longings. I love You, dear Lord. Help me to love You more. Jesus, I trust in You.

The secular world is filled with bad news. The newspapers, talk shows, and other forms of media thrive on sensational and exaggerated tragic events to keep our attention. And we, for our part, are often eager to share the latest gossip or criticism. But what about the good news? What about the news of God’s abundant Mercy? How often are you fascinated by this message and how often do you seek to tell the world about the Mercy of God?

Imagine the parent who loves a child with burning love. They are committed in every way to the care and well-being of their child.Their love is steady and irrevocable from the time of birth on into adulthood. Now imagine the pain in this parent’s heart if at some point their child walks out on them and fully rejects their love. This loving parent will not give up but will think about their child day and night, aching inside with love, hoping to be able to receive their child back.This is but a faint image of the love of the Heart of Jesus. As a “faint image,” we must realize that when we reject the love of our Lord, the wound of love in His Heart produces the deepest suffering. But this is a suffering of love. And instead of this wound of love causing Him to reject us, it does the opposite. The more we turn from God, the deeper His wound of love, and the deeper His wound of love, the more He pours out His Mercy upon us. Never doubt for a single moment the irrevocable love God has for you. Believing in this love will give you courage to always return to our Lord.

Reflect upon the love that your parent has for you. No, it may not be perfect, and some may have experienced great hurt from a parent, but try to imagine what it would be like to have a parent who loves you with an unconditional love. The knowledge of this love would become a constant invitation to let them into your life. Reflect also on this being a faint image of the love of God for you. Do not doubt this love. Turn to it and trust in this irrevocable love of our merciful Lord.

Chosen Souls

(Jesus speaks to Saint Maria Faustina)

On a certain occasion, the Lord said to me, "I am more deeply wounded by the small imperfections of chosen souls than by the sins of those living in the world".

It made me very sad that chosen souls make Jesus suffer, and Jesus told me, "These little imperfections are not all. I will reveal to you a secret of My Heart: what I suffer from chosen souls. Ingratitude in return for so many graces is My Heart's constant food, on the part of a chosen soul. Their love is lukewarm, and My Heart cannot bear it; these souls force Me to reject them. Others distrust My goodness and have no desire to experience that sweet intimacy in their own hearts, but go in search of Me, off in the distance, and do not find Me. This distrust of My goodness hurts Me very much. If My death has not convinced you of My love, what will? Often a soul wounds Me mortally, and then no one can comfort Me. They use My graces to offend Me. There are souls who despise My graces as well as all the proofs of My love. They do not wish to hear My call, but proceed into the abyss of hell. The loss of these souls plunges Me into deadly sorrow. God though I am, I cannot help such a soul because it scorns Me; having a free will, it can spurn Me or love Me. You, who are the dispenser of My mercy, tell all the world about My goodness, and thus you will comfort My Heart".
