We are all very ordinary, nothing-special, still-trying-to-figure-it-out Christians from lots of different church and cultural backgrounds. For us, following Jesus is a compelling call to Love God and Love our Neighbours (and even our enemies!). It means living compassionately, cherishing all of creation, being thoughtful in faith, embracing unknowing, excluding no-one and cultivating an altogethe
r more defiantly hopeful view of our shared future together. If you’re local, you can join us any Sunday at 11am. YOU ARE ALL WELCOME (AND ALL OF YOU IS WELCOME)
We extend a special welcome to those who are single, married, divorced, widowed, straight, LGBT+, well-heeled or down at heel. We especially welcome wailing babies and excited toddlers. We welcome you whether you can sing like Pavarotti or just growl quietly to yourself. You’re welcome here if you’re ‘just browsing,’ just woken up or just got out of prison. We don’t care if you’ve lived surrounded by church, or haven’t been to church since Christmas ten years ago. We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but not grown up yet, and to teenagers who are growing up too fast. We welcome keep-fit mums, football dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte-sippers, vegetarians, and junk-food eaters. We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted. We welcome you, if you’re having problems, are down in the dumps or don’t like ‘organised religion.’ (We’re not that keen on it either!)
We offer a welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don’t work, can’t spell, or are just here because granny is visiting. We welcome those who are inked, pierced, both or neither. We offer a special welcome to those who could use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down their throat as kids or just got lost at the roundabout and ended up here by accident. We welcome pilgrims, tourists, seekers, doubters... and you! OUR SUNDAY MEETING
In our Sunday gathering we create a safe environment where there is freedom for everyone to contribute and engage or just to watch and listen, where there is a structure but also flexibility to respond to people. Central to our time together is what we call ‘Open Table’ when we take bread and wine (in our case gluten-free cracker and grape juice!). This simple act was instituted by Jesus when he invited his disciples to remember him. Down through the ages, Christians have continued this tradition (in lots of different ways). We believe, Jesus invites all to come and eat, to share in this meal with him and with each other. We read a couple of Bible passage (using same lectionary as Church of Ireland and Catholic Church), then together think about these reflectively, in discussion and creatively. By sharing different perspectives, we learn together. As a caring community, we want to respond to personal and wider needs both in prayer and practically. There is always a time to share concerns and to pray together. Children are welcome in the meeting and we want to make sure they are comfortable and can enjoy our time together
Our meeting lasts about one hour but there is a standing invitation to linger and enjoy each other’s company over a coffee, tea and snacks. For us, this is just as important as the "meeting" part.
