A Warm Welcome to Ginger & Mark Murphy 💚

It was a pleasure to welcome Ginger and her son Mark Murphy to the Fr Peyton Centre, accompanied by Joe and Kathleen Neary from Bonniconlon.

Ginger and her late husband, Peter, have been visiting Ireland for over 30 years, and their connection with Mayo and the local community has continued throughout the years.

Ginger and Peter also played an important role in supporting the development of the Irish Hunger Memorial in New York, which was completed and dedicated on 16 July 2002. They were instrumental in bringing families connected with the project to New York and helping to host those involved in the launch and dedication of this important memorial.

The Irish Hunger Memorial was created to raise awareness of the events that led to the Great Famine of 1845–1852, while also encouraging greater awareness of hunger around the world today.

At the heart of the memorial is an authentic Famine-era cottage from Carradoogan, in the parish of Attymass, Co Mayo, donated by the extended Slack family, based in the Battery Park City neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City.
Carefully reconstructed on the memorial site, the cottage stands as a powerful symbol of those who left Ireland and those who remained behind.

It was wonderful to welcome Ginger and Mark back to Mayo and to hear more about their connection to this important part of Irish history and heritage.

🌍 What is the Global Rosary for Peace? 🙏

On October 22nd, people around the world will come together to pray the Rosary for peace.

Families, parishes, schools and communities across 18 countries and six continents will unite in prayer, praying the Luminous Mysteries for peace in our hearts, our families, our communities and our world.

The Fr Peyton Centre in Attymass will be joining this worldwide prayer and hosting a live broadcast of the event.

Community at the Heart of the Centre

Every week, we warmly welcome visitors to our Community Tuesdays, one of the most cherished gatherings at the Centre.
Beginning with Holy Mass at 12.15pm, guests are then invited to enjoy a delicious three-course lunch in our Centre Café, followed by an afternoon of bingo or live music, song and dance.

Whether you are coming on your own or with friends, Community Tuesdays provide a wonderful opportunity to relax, make new friendships and enjoy companionship in a welcoming and caring environment. Everyone is welcome, and we encourage you to bring a friend.

Our weekly Rosary Thursdays, held every Thursday at 12 noon in the Chapel and broadcast live on Facebook and Church TV, also continue throughout the autumn, welcoming those who wish to join us in prayer either in person or online.

Remembering Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Kallarackal, CSC

It is with great sadness that the team at the Father Peyton Centre, Ireland, learned of the sudden passing of Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Kallarackal, CSC, who died unexpectedly in Ireland on August 29, 2026. Fr. Emmanuel had been visiting family on the east coast of Ireland and was returning to Dublin to continue his journey back to Rome when he sadly passed away.

We had the great privilege of spending the past week with Fr. Emmanuel during his visit to the west of Ireland. His sudden passing has come as a profound shock to all of us who had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know him.

Fr. Emmanuel was a truly lovely gentleman — warm, kind and gracious — but above all, a deeply holy priest and person. During his time with us, he enjoyed the beautiful weather of the west of Ireland and particularly appreciated the solace, peace and quietness of Attymass. He valued the opportunity to spend time in the chapel at the Father Peyton Centre, where he found a place of prayer and reflection.

Fr. Emmanuel leaves behind a remarkable legacy of service to the Church and to education. A member of the Congregation of Holy Cross, he dedicated many years to educating and inspiring young people in Tripura, India. He served as Vice Principal and later Principal of Holy Cross School, Agartala, and from 2009 to 2019 was the founding Principal of Holy Cross College, Agartala, helping to establish and develop the institution during its formative years.

His ministry touched the lives of thousands of students, teachers and families. He believed that education was not simply about academic achievement, but about awakening minds, shaping character and helping young people recognise their God-given potential.

For those of us who had the privilege of spending time with him here in Attymass, however, we will remember him simply as a gentle and holy priest who brought a wonderful spirit of peace and kindness with him.

We extend our deepest sympathies and prayers to Fr. Emmanuel's family, his brother priests and religious community, the Congregation of Holy Cross, Holy Cross Family Ministries, and all those whose lives he touched throughout his years of dedicated service.

Please join us in praying for Fr. Emmanuel and for all who mourn his sudden passing.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace. Amen. 🙏

September – Celebrating Faith and Culture

September at the Fr. Peyton Centre offers a wonderful opportunity to come together in prayer, reflection, music and community as we welcome the beginning of autumn.

Our month begins with the Monthly Guided Prayer Afternoon on Thursday, 10th September (2.00pm – 4.30pm). These afternoons provide a peaceful opportunity to step away from the busyness of everyday life and spend time in guided reflection, the Rosary and Holy Mass.

On Friday, 18th September, the Fr. Peyton Centre once again takes part in Culture Night 2026. Beginning at 6.00pm, visitors can enjoy an evening of traditional Irish music, local performers and warm hospitality, complemented by homemade scones, tea and coffee. Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Ox Mountains, Culture Night is a wonderful celebration of local heritage, music and community spirit.

As autumn continues, we invite you to take a little more time for yourself with our Ignatian Retreat Day on Saturday, 26th September (10.00am – 5.00pm).

Inspired by the words of Isaiah, “See! I am doing a new thing” (Is 43), this special day in Attymass offers an opportunity to step away from the everyday, enter into quiet reflection and prayer, and consider the new ways in which God may be working in our lives.

Through guided reflection, prayer and Ignatian spirituality, the retreat provides a peaceful space for renewal, discernment and discovering a fresh perspective as we enter a new season.
