Last Saturday was a very special day in the life of our parish when twins Donnacha & Fiachra were baptised by Revd. Conor in St. Michael's Church, Athy. We wish both of them every blessing as they begin their journey of faith as members of the Church of God. Every blessing also to their parents Keith and Shannon and the godparents for taking on the responsibility of bringing them up in the Christian faith.

Our Youth Club resumed after the summer break with a wonderful barbecue last Friday evening. It was a lovely evening and the food was delicious. Revd. Congratulations to all Leaving Certificate students on the milestone of receiving your results. It's bound to be a day of mixed emotions - delight and elation for those who got the results they wanted, and upset and disappointment for those who didn't. Remember though that exam results are not the measure of who you are as a person. Each one of you is created in the image and likeness of God and therefore you have a dignity and worth which no exams will ever be able to measure. Today is only one day in the rest of your life. Wishing you all every blessing both now and in the future which lies ahead.

Restorative work has begun on the steeple of St. Michael’s Church, Athy. I am full of admiration for the people doing this work. Heights aren't my thing, and even taking these photos made me feel a little queasy! It's great that this work has finally started. God bless the crew doing this work and keep them safe.

A PASTORAL MESSAGE FROM REVD. CONOR

I am deeply saddened by the horrific incident on the M9 motorway in the early hours of Sunday morning. At a time of such profound shock and sadness, my thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this tragedy.

We pray for all those who have been injured, for their healing and recovery, and for their families and friends who are anxiously supporting them. As Christians, we must also pray for those who have lost loved ones, asking God to grant them strength, comfort and peace in the difficult days ahead.

Our gratitude must also go to the emergency services, medical teams and all those who responded at the scene and continue to care for those affected. Their professionalism, compassion and service in the most difficult of circumstances deserve our deepest appreciation.

A tragedy such as this is also a solemn reminder to each of us of the responsibility we carry whenever we use our roads. Safety must always come first. Every journey calls for patience, care, consideration for others and responsible decision-making. We should never take for granted how quickly circumstances on our roads can change, or how precious and fragile life can be.

From a Christian perspective, we are reminded to respond first with compassion, prayer and care for our neighbour. In moments when words can seem inadequate, we place those who are suffering into God's loving hands and ask Him to bring healing to the injured, to be close to the bereaved, and to give strength to all whose lives have been changed by this terrible event.

May the Lord bring healing to those who have been injured, comfort all who mourn, protect all who travel on our roads, and help each of us to cherish the gift of life and our responsibility to one another.

May all those affected remain in our prayers.
