Today was a great day for the Athy Union of Parishes as our parishioner Nya Mutangirwa was commissioned as a Diocesan Lay Reader by the Archbishop in Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin this afternoon. I was personally delighted both as Rector of the Athy Union of Parishes, but also as Joint Diocesan Warden of Lay Readers to have one of my own parishioners answer the call to serve in Lay Ministry in our Diocese. I greatly look forward to Nya leading services in our Union of Parishes going forward. May God bless her abundantly as she begins this new ministry in our Diocese.

Revd. Conor attended the Annual Famine Commemoration in the Famine Graveyard in Athy this afternoon. He led prayers along with Fr. Liam Rigney PP for all those both locally and nationally who died during the Great Famine of the mid-19th Century, and also remembered those in our world today who are victims of famine. Revd. Conor is pictured here in front of the Famine Memorial with Frank Taaffe, Clem Roche and Fr. Liam Rigney PP.

May all the victims of the Great Famine locally here in Athy and throughout the rest of Ireland Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory. Amen.

They are pictured here with Archbishop Michael and Revd. Conor. We wish all of the newly confirmed every blessing on this most important day for them in their ongoing faith journey.

Revd. Conor was in Mountbellew, Co. Galway last night to give a talk to the Solace Bereavement Support Group on his personal experience of bereavement and loss regarding the death of his late wife Mollie, and bringing a Christian perspective to this experience. Whilst extremely difficult to do so, he was glad to share his story in the hope that it may be of benefit to those who are also on the same, unwanted journey of being bereaved by the loss of a loved one. He is pictured here with Fr. Karl Burns PP (Mountbellew and Moylough), Sr. Margaret and Stephen Fitzpatrick who co-ordinate the Solace Bereavement Support Group.
