A Journey Together: Exploring our Faith

Have you ever found yourself with questions that don’t have easy answers? Perhaps you’ve felt a quiet tugging at your heart, a curiosity about the meaning of life, or a desire to understand the rhythms of the Mass more deeply.

Whether you have never been baptized, are just beginning to step toward the threshold of the Church, or have been sitting in the pews for decades, faith is a road that is best traveled in the company of others.

Later this year, we are opening doors to a new space for conversation and discovery. We are launching a series of 12 discussion sessions designed specifically for those who wish to explore, question, and deepen their understanding of faith.

Who is this for?

This course is for everyone. It is a gentle, low-pressure environment where there is no such thing as a "silly" question. It is a place to share perspectives, listen to the experiences of others, and engage with the beauty of our tradition at your own pace. You don’t need to be an expert; you only need an open mind and a willing heart.

How to join the conversation: We are currently gathering names of those who feel called to join us.

Registering your interest is the first step in this shared journey:

Once we have our group settled, we will reach out later in the year with the full schedule, including specific dates, times, and our meeting venue.

We believe that faith is not a solo endeavor, but a communal walk. We would be honored to have you join us for these 12 sessions as we support one another, learn together, and grow in our relationship with the Divine.

Will you walk with us?

The Heart of Our Journey: A Reflection on Corpus Christi

In the busy rhythm of our parish life, it is easy to view the Eucharist as one part of our Sunday routine—a sacred ritual that marks the beginning of our week. But as we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi, the Church invites us to pause and consider the staggering reality of what we truly possess: the Real Presence of Christ in our midst.

· The word “Eucharist” comes from the Greek word for “thanksgiving.” Yet, Corpus Christi—the Body and Blood of Christ—is more than just an act of gratitude. It is an act of divine intimacy. In the humblest form of bread and wine, the Creator of the universe chooses to diminish Himself, becoming nourishment for our weary souls. He does not remain distant or abstract; He enters into our very biology, becoming part of who we are.

· This Feast reminds us that we are a “Eucharistic people.” We are invited to carry the presence of Christ out of these walls and into our homes, our workplaces, and our communities . Just as the bread is broken for the life of the world, we are called to be “broken and poured out” for one another—to be the hands, the feet, and the compassion of Jesus in a world that is often hungry for love but doesn’t know where to turn.

· As we process with the Blessed Sacrament this week, let us look upon the monstrance not just as an object of devotion, but as a mirror. Where is Christ in your life right now? Is He a guest or the host? Is He a Sunday visitor or the centre of your daily walk?

May this feast deepen our hunger for the Bread of Life and embolden us to be living tabernacles, radiating the light of Christ to everyone we encounter.

Wishing you all a blessed on the Feast of Corpus Christi.

Important Notice Regarding Parking at Ss. Peter and Paul’s Church

Please be advised that restricted parking is now in effect at Ss. Peter and Paul’s Church, Athlone, for the next two months to facilitate the essential rebuilding of a dangerous section of the boundary wall.

Due to these necessary works, the right-hand side of the church grounds is currently completely blocked, meaning motorists can no longer drive around the perimeter of the church.

While limited parking remains available immediately to the right of the gate and on the Post Office side, these spaces are strictly limited.

We kindly ask that you respect these restricted areas and keep them available for those who need them most.

We thank you in advance for your patience, cooperation, and understanding as we ensure the safety of our church grounds.

Fr. John

Living in the Heart of the Trinity

This Sunday, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. It is a day when we turn our minds and hearts toward the great mystery of our faith: that God is not a solitary being, but a communion of love—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Often, when we think of the Trinity, we get caught up in trying to “solve” the mystery. We look for analogies—the clover, the sun, or the nature of water—to explain how three can be one. But the Trinity is not a puzzle to be solved; it is a life to be entered into.

St. John tells us simply that “God is love.” If God is love, He must exist in relationship. You cannot have love without a lover, a beloved, and the love that flows between them. In the Trinity, we see the perfect model of community. The Father pours Himself out to the Son; the Son returns that love to the Father; and the Holy Spirit is the very bond of that eternal, life-giving affection.

What does this mean for our parish family?

It means that we were created in the image of this communion. We are not meant to live as isolated individuals, but to be a reflection of the Trinity here on earth. Every time we choose kindness over judgment, every time we serve our neighbour, and every time we gather as a parish to celebrate the Eucharist, we are living out our Trinitarian vocation.

As we celebrate this feast, let us ask the Holy Trinity to dwell more deeply within us. Let us pray that our parish may be a place where the love of the Father, the grace of the Son, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit are not just words we recite at the end of Mass, but the very heartbeat of our daily lives.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
