We continue to pray for the suffering people of Ukraine and for an end to the conflict in their country. This is the prayer which we have been saying in church over the last few days and which is printed in our newsletter this week. As we pray to the Lord himself, we invoke the intercession of Our Lady and the Saints in Heaven, in particular Saint Josaphat of Ukraine (1580 - 1623) and Saint John Paul II (1920 - 2005).

On behalf of our parish I'd like to compliment the Kilmoyley Senior Hurling Team and Management on their gallant effort in defeat in last Saturday evening's All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Final in Croke Park. All involved can certainly hold their heads high in spite of the narrow two point loss (0-16 to 1-11) at the hands of a very strong Naas side whom we congratulate on their hard-earned victory. Everyone associated with Kilmoyley should look back with pride on a wonderful campaign that culminated in what was a very special occasion last Saturday for all of us who were privileged to be there! That second half fightback by our lads to come back from six points down soon after half time to narrow the gap to a single point in "injury time" was thrilling and showed once again Kilmoyley's "never-say-die" spirit!
To conclude, it was indeed a fantastic achievement on the part of the Kilmoyley Players and Management to get to that final in Croke Park and that famous spirit undoubtedly helped in no small way on that historic journey and all involved certainly did themselves and their families as well as our parish and county proud! Cill Mhaoile Abu!

Coming up to 4.00pm this Wednesday afternoon here's thinking of Ashling Murphy and her family and friends as it was around this time last week that she went for a run and was cruelly murdered. Our faith has us believe that she's now numbered among the saints in Heaven and praying for her heartbroken family and friends including her school community in Durrow National School. We would like to think that she's overwhelmed by the beauty of Heaven and is being richly rewarded there for all the good that she did on this earth and the love and the kindness that she showed to so many people. (Fr. Pat Crean-Lynch) 🙏😇

Since there is no intention on our 10.00am Mass tomorrow morning in Ardfert I feel it would be very fitting to celebrate the Mass for Ashling Murphy whose Funeral Mass will be celebrated an hour later in Saint Brigid's Church, Mountbolus, Co. Offaly. We are confident that Ashling is already numbered among the saints in Heaven and praying for her heartbroken family especially her parents Kathleen and Raymond and her brother Cathal and sister Amy and her boyfriend Ryan and for her huge number of friends including her school community in Durrow National School. We will also include them in our prayers, asking the Lord to continue to comfort them and give them strength at this time and in the months and years ahead. (Fr. Pat Crean-Lynch) 🙏😇

Today (27th February) is the Feast Day of Saint Saint Gregory of Narek (c.950 - 1003) and Saint Gabriel Francis of Our Lady of Sorrows (1838 - 1862).
Saint Gregory was a poet and theologian who was a monk in Narek which was in Armenia back when he lived and is now in eastern Turkey. He has always been greatly revered in the Armenian Church and was a great spiritual writer. Pope Francis canonised him in Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome on 12th April 2015 and declared him a Doctor of the Church. It was only 25 days ago on 2nd February 2021 that Pope Francis declared that his Feast Day would be celebrated on 27th February.
Saint Gabriel Francis of Our Lady of Sorrows was born in Assisi on 1st March 1838 and was seriously ill as a child. He became a Passionist monk in Moravalle in 1856 and sadly died of consumption in Isola on 27th February 1862. He was beatified by Pope Pius X in Rome on 31st May 1908 and canonised 100 years ago by Pope Benedict XV in Rome on 13th May 1920.
Saint Gregory of Narek, please pray for us.
Saint Gabriel Francis of Our Lady of Sorrows, please pray for us.

Today (23rd February) is the Feast Day of Saint Polycarp (69-155). He was born around the year 69 and is believed to have been converted to Christianity by Saint John the Apostle around the year 80 and became a close disciple of John before becoming Bishop of Smyrna in Asia Minor in modern Turkey around the year 96. He was noted for his orthodoxy.
His martyrdom around the year 155 is particularly famous. He was arrested when he returned to Smyrna from Rome after he had gone to the Eternal City to discuss the date of Easter with Pope Anicetus. The local Roman proconsul Quadratus ordered him to disown Jesus Christ and offer sacrifice to the Roman gods. He refused to do so, saying that he had remained faithful to Christ from his childhood and was now 86 years of age. He was sentenced to death and was burnt on a pyre. Apparently twelve of his fellow Christians were put to death with him.
Saint Polycarp, please pray for us.
