When We Reach Benin, Tell Me!

An old woman boarded a bus from Calabar to Lagos and told the driver, “Driver, abeg, when we reach Benin, tell me o!”

The driver, like a good soldier, nodded. But Mama wasn’t done. She shouted, “Una hear wetin I tell am?”
The whole bus, amused but obedient, echoed, “Yes, Mama!”

Everyone dozed off, and hours later, they were almost in Lagos when Mama woke up and asked, “Driver, you never reach Benin?”
The driver, now in deep regret, said, “Mama, Benin don pass four hours ago!”

Mama let out a wail, “Take me back to Benin! I no wan wahala!”

With pity, the passengers convinced the driver to turn around. Four hours later, they reached Benin.

Mama opened her bag, took out two Panadol, swallowed them, smiled, and said, “Thank you! My daughter say make I take Panadol when I reach Benin. Oya, make we go Lagos now!”
