𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗮𝗴𝗵𝗱𝗮𝗱 (مدينة بغداد المدورة) is the original core of Baghdad, built by the Abbasid caliph Al-Mansur in 762–766 CE as the official residence of the Abbasid court. Its official name in Abbasid times was 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 (مدينة السلام). The famous library known as the House of Wisdom was located within its grounds.

According to Ya'qubi, the plans for the city were drawn up, but it was not until 2 August 762 that construction began, under the supervision of four architects.

The caliphal Palace of the Golden Gate and the main mosque, as well as some of the administration offices, were apparently completed by 763, allowing al-Mansur to move his residence into the city, and the rest of the Round City was completed by 766.

The Persian elements rather appeared after the foundation of the new city, and included Persian architectural influence, Persian military settlement in the early years, the continuing settlement of Persian scholars, and the late rulers of Persian origin (such as the Buyids).

𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗮 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗮 was the ninth 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘢 of the Mali Empire, an Islamic West African state. At the time of Musa's ascension to the throne, Mali in large part consisted of the territory of the former Ghana Empire, which Mali had conquered. The Mali Empire consisted of land that is now part of Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Gambia and the modern state of Mali.

Musa conquered 24 cities, along with their surrounding districts. During Musa's reign, Mali may have been the largest producer of gold in the world, and Musa has been called one of the wealthiest historical figures.

In 1324–1325, Musa performed the hajj. En route, he spent time in Cairo, where his lavish gift-giving caused a noticeable drop in the price of gold for over a decade. After completing the hajj, Musa returned to Mali, annexing the cities of Gao and Timbuktu upon his return.

𝗔𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗲 (مسجد النور) is a Sunni mosque in the Christchurch suburb of Riccarton in New Zealand. It was the primary target of the Christchurch mosque shootings of 15 March 2019.

The Al Noor Mosque was built in 1984–1985 by the Muslim Association of Canterbury, an organization founded in 1977 that also manages the mosque building. The Saudi Arabian government donated NZ$460,000 towards its construction.

On 15 March 2019, the site was one of two targets in a terrorist attack at Christchurch. A majority of the victims were at Al Noor: of the 51 people fatally shot and the 40 people injured overall in the attack, 44 victims died and another 35 survived gunshot wounds in that mosque.

𝗠𝗼𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗺𝗿 𝗶𝗯𝗻 𝗮𝗹-𝗔𝘀 (جامع عمرو بن العاص) was originally built in 641–642 AD, as the center of the newly founded capital of Egypt, Fustat. The original structure was the first mosque ever built in Egypt and the whole of Africa. For 600 years, the mosque was also an important center of Islamic learning until Al-Muizz's Al-Azhar Mosque in Islamic Cairo replaced it. Through the twentieth century, it was the fourth largest mosque in the Islamic world.

The location for the mosque was the site of the tent of the commander of the Muslim army, general Amr ibn al-As. One corner of the mosque contains the tomb of his son, Abd Allah ibn Amr ibn al-As. Due to extensive reconstruction over the centuries nothing of the original building remains, but the rebuilt Mosque is a prominent landmark and can be seen in what today is known as Old Cairo.

It is an active mosque with a devout congregation, and when prayers are not taking place, it is also open to visitors and tourists.

𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗺 𝗛𝘂𝘀𝗮𝘆𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 (العتبة الحسينية) is the mosque and burial site of Husayn ibn Ali, the third Imam of Shia Islam, in the city of Karbala, Iraq. It stands on the site of the Mausoleum of Husayn, who was a grandson of Muhammad, near the place where he was martyred during the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE.

The tomb of Husayn is one of the holiest places in Shia Islam, outside of Mecca and Medina, and many make pilgrimages to the site. Every year, millions of pilgrims visit the city to observe Ashura, which marks the anniversary of Husayn's death. Every year for Arba'een rituals that occurs forty days after the Day of Ashura up to 45 million people go to the city of Karbala.

Happy Ashura Day 🙏

𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁 (مسجد جامع هرات‎) is a mosque in the city of Herat, in the Herat Province of north-western Afghanistan. It was built by the Ghurids, under the rule of Ghiyath al-Din Muhammad, who laid its foundation in 1200 CE. Later, it was extended several times as Herat changed rulers down the centuries from the Kartids, Timurids, Mughals and then the Uzbeks, all of whom supported the mosque.

The fundamental structure of the mosque from the Ghurid period has been preserved, but parts have been added and modified. The Great Mosque in Herat was given its present appearance during the 20th century.

Dating from 1549, it is one of the oldest mosques in Indonesia, built at the time of Islam's spread through Java. The mosque preserves the tomb of Sunan Kudus, one of the nine Islamic saints of Java (the Wali Sanga), and it is a popular pilgrimage point.

It preserves pre-Islamic architectural forms such as old Javanese split doorways, ancient Hindu-Buddhist influenced Majapahit-style red brickwork, and a three-tired pyramidal roof. The most unusual feature is the brick minaret on which a pavilion shelters a large bedug which is used to summon the faithful to prayer instead of the more common muezzin.

Whereas a bedug normally hangs under the eaves of a mosque veranda, in the Menara Kudus Mosque it sits in a tower like a Balinese Hindu temple kulkul or signal drum used to warn of impending attack, fire, or communal event. No other mosque in Java is known to have a drum tower of this type.

𝗔𝗸𝗯𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 (اکبر اعظم‎) was the third Mughal emperor, who reigned from 1556 to 1605. Akbar succeeded his father, Humayun, under a regent, Bairam Khan, who helped the young emperor expand and consolidate Mughal domains in India.

Mughal India developed a strong and stable economy, leading to commercial expansion and greater patronage of culture. Akbar himself was a patron of art and culture. He was fond of literature, and created a library of over 24,000 volumes written in Sanskrit, Urdu, Persian, Greek, Latin, Arabic and Kashmiri, staffed by many scholars, translators, artists, calligraphers, scribes, bookbinders and readers. He did much of the cataloging himself through three main groupings. Akbar also established the library of Fatehpur Sikri exclusively for women, and he decreed that schools for the education of both Muslims and Hindus should be established throughout the realm. He also encouraged bookbinding to become a high art. Holy men of many faiths, poets, architects, and artisans adorned his court from all over the world for study and discussion.

Akbar's courts at Delhi, Agra, and Fatehpur Sikri became centres of the arts, letters, and learning. Timurid and Perso-Islamic culture began to merge and blend with indigenous Indian elements, and a distinct Indo-Persian culture emerged characterized by Mughal style arts, painting, and architecture.

Disillusioned with orthodox Islam and perhaps hoping to bring about religious unity within his empire, Akbar promulgated Din-i-Ilahi, a syncretic creed derived mainly from Islam and Hinduism as well as some parts of Zoroastrianism and Christianity.

Happy Independence Day, India and Pakistan!

𝗦𝗿𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗲 (𝘔𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘬𝘳 𝘶 𝘚𝘳𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘪) was the July 1995 genocide Bosniak Muslims, mainly military aged men and boys, in and around the town of Srebrenica during the Bosnian War. The killings were done by units of the Bosnian Serb Army of Republika Srpska under the command of Ratko Mladić. 8,373 people were killed in the massacre.

In 2005, Kofi Annan, then Secretary-General of the United Nations, described the mass murder as the worst crime on European soil since the Second World War.

In July 2015, Russia vetoed a UN resolution that would have condemned the Srebrenica massacre as a genocide.
