Final Day | Kora,Light Offering & Realase Lanterns
Day 8 | Saturday, 18 July 2026 — Chöekhor Düchen
On this most sacred day of Chöekhor Düchen, commemorating the Buddha's First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma, the 2nd Drikung Kagyu Monlam Indonesia reached its beautiful conclusion at Borobudur.
This year's Monlam was led by Khenpo Tsultrim Tenzin Rinpoche, together with Khenpo Tsering Norbu, Khenpo Tashi Dorje, and Khenpo Konchok Dorje, with a total of 19 venerable monks and nuns joining in these 7 days of collective aspiration prayers.
Among them, with deep respect and gratitude for their presence and devotion: Lama Gyatso, Lama Rangdol, Lama Stopdan, Lama Jungas, Lama Tsewang, Lama Konchok Palden, Lama Rabten, Lama Rizgin Tamchos, Lama Sherab Dorje, Lama Pema Gyatso, Ani Padma, Ani Choskit, Lama Samten, and Lama Norbu Gurung.
The event also welcomed participants from seven countries Indonesia, the United States, Russia, Mexico, France, Germany, and Malaysia attended by devotees from around the world.
The day began before dawn with a Kora procession, carrying the picture of His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Tinley Lhundup, the 37th Throne-holder of the Glorious Drikung Kagyu Lineage, followed by prayer atop Borobudur Temple. In the afternoon, the sangha also performed Lama Chöpa and Amitayus Puja to celebrate the birthday of His Holiness, marked with a Offering cakes, before the Monlam prayers drew to their closing session with words of appreciation for all who took part.
As evening fell, the sangha and all devotees gathered once more this time dressed in white for a candlelight Kora around Borobudur and a Light Offering, followed by the release of the Lanterns of Merit into the night sky above the great mandala temple. 19 venerable monks and nuns led this aspiration of light, dedicating the merit and well being of all beings on this most auspicious of days.
The evening closed with Gala Dinner at Manohara, accompanied by a performance of the Gending Sriwijaya dance a traditional welcoming dance from Palembang, South Sumatra, rooted in the golden era of the ancient Sriwijaya Kingdom, historically renowned as a center of Buddhist learning. Performed by young dancers in elaborate gold threaded songket costumes, the dance carries deep symbolism of hospitality, respect, and honor for distinguished guests, making it a fitting close to this sacred gathering.

Our deepest gratitude goes to the small circle of dedicated sangha members who carried this Monlam on their shoulders from the very beginning from bringing everything all the way from Nepal, to standing through every session until the last lantern was released into the sky. You showed up again and again, quietly, faithfully, with no expectation of recognition. This gathering exists because you gave it your all.
To everyone who gave in ways big and small your time, your prayers, your efforts, your presence thank you. What you offered didn't just make this Monlam happen it carried the Buddha Dharma one step further into the world, and that is a gift words will always fall short of holding..
We dedicate the merit of these Monlam..
every prayer offered, every lamp lit, every step of Kora toward the dispelling of all obstacles to peace.
May illness, conflict, and fear soften into wisdom and compassion. May the Buddha's teachings endure long in this world, and may every being, without exception, come to know their true nature.
Until samsara is emptied, may this light never go out.
