On Pentecost Sunday is our principal liturgical celebration, when Sisters of Social Service gather to celebrate together as a community in the different countries where we are present. Our new members take or renew their vows and we greet the sisters who celebrate their anniversaries. Wherever we are in the world, we stand united in prayer asking the Spirit of Love to fill our hearts with renewed hope, keep us united in love, and strengthen us in our mission.

May 11 is the memorial feast of Blessed Sister Sara Salkaházi SSS. This year in September we commemorate the 20th anniversary of her Beatification.
Her words quoted above were written in 1943 but are very much timely in our days as well.
"...We want love. And we want to build with justice. ... Justice recognizes the right to life of other countries! It breaks down the barriers that divide us... In the particularities of the different peoples it recognizes the richness of God’s diverset thoughts and says: we are all children of one Father, we have the same right to live and therefore we must support each other in unity."

Join us in prayer!
We, the General Council of the Sisters of Social Service have responded to the call of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) for "prayer, fasting, and action for an unarmed and disarming peace." We joined the livestream of the event which is open to the faithful and all people of goodwill. Praying together with thousands of our sisters strengthens our hope and dedication to work for peace.

Epiphany was our foundress' favorite feast because it marks that the good news has become manifest for the world. By God's grace It was on this feast that she was called home by her Creator.
Today, in spite of the cold weather we gathered at her grave to remember the death anniversary of Sr. Margaret Slachta, and to allow her thoughts enkindle the fire of our founding charism in our hearts. This time we reflected on her teachings about peace.

Today we concluded the District Assembly of our Slovak District, which started on Friday, January 2nd. Halfway through their term, the district moderator and her council invited the sisters to reflect on the life of the district, to evaluate the progress made, to consider the changes and to address the present challenges. Following the synodal way, having conversation in the Spirit, they formulated priorities and directives for the next two years. The assembly was also attended by the general council.

Yesterday, on December 27, in the afternoon, we commemorated Sister Blessed Sára Salkaházi on the 81st anniversary of her martyrdom. At the memorial plaque on the banks of the Danube, sisters and associates prayed together that Sister Sára's example and intercession may continue to be a source of strength for those who work for mercy and justice in today's society.
