In 2008 I visited Haiti for the first time with my church for a week. We worked in an orphanage with 150 children. I returned to Haiti that year 2 more times working at the same orphanage. The following summer I did an internship with an organization in Haiti that had a clinic. I worked in the clinic during the day and would visit the orphanage and children in the community in the afternoons. I kn
ew from the first trip that I would continually do ministry in Haiti for the rest of my life, but I didn't know in what way. While there that summer I prayed and asked the Lord to reveal his plan for me in Haiti! While at an outside revival service I had started a small conversation with some children(due to my lack of creole at the time ;) ) There was a 10 year old girl there and she said to me that she lived on the streets alone. During the invitation I was praying with people in the alter and the little girl pushed her way through the crowd to get to me! I got on my knees to pray with her and in that moment i felt that the Lord was answering my prayers! Be the mama to the mama less. Love on these children and show them the love I have for them!!! So I started my planning and not to long after I had allowed fear and doubt to control my thoughts and actions. I had moved to Haiti after the earth quake in 2010. Shortly after moving there I began working with Gods Planet, running their mission house and helping facilitate the teams coming down to Haiti. We set up orphanage work, prison ministry, construction, community outreaches and other ministry opportunity for the teams! I remember to this day my last team i hosted! I had shared with a team member the vision and dream the Lord had given to me, and he said even though Sarah you are doing great things here, if your not doing what the Lord has to you to do you are not walking in his will!! That was my wake up call!! In September of 2011 my husband (fiance then) and I stepped out in faith and said Lord you called us to this we believe you will provide! I made my plans and budgets and needed $16,000 to start the children's home, which included rent all the way to spoons! I spoke at several churches to raise support and I got on the plane with my one way ticket to Haiti with $2,000 in my pocket! I love the way God shows us to rely on HIM. I paid part of the rent and bought a small stove. In September we received our first children! As time went on the Lord always provided for our needs! As our needs grew the Lord always showed up and provided! Fast forward to 2016, we have now been able to purchase property, build the first house and build 4 school rooms on the property! God is so good!!! We currently are able to care for 16 wonderful children! When all the houses are complete we will be able to care for 24 children. We are so blessed to be apart of this ministry and are humbled everyday that the Lord has chosen us to be apart of the lives of these amazing children.
