Manje manje! 🥭🍗🍚 Haitian cuisine is full of bold flavors, rich traditions, and fresh ingredients. It's truly a blend of cultures — strong Caribbean and Taíno roots, West African traditions, and French influences.

There are the staples like griot and diri kole with a side of fried plantains and pikliz 🍛traditional holiday dishes like soup joumou 🍲 and seasonal fruits like mangoes and avocados. 🥑 The ocean also provides a variety of seafood, often prepared with citrus and signature epis (spices). 🐟🦞

Did you know May is Haitian Heritage Month? 🇭🇹🗓 We’re excited to spend the rest of this month sharing more about the country we know and love — starting with its name! ⬇

“Haiti” comes from the Indigenous Taíno word Ayiti, meaning “land of high mountains.” ⛰️ These mountains have long provided crops, homes for village communities, and breathtaking views across the country. But they also tell stories of hardship, as erosion and mudslides can make mountain life difficult and dangerous during heavy rains.

Through it all, Haiti’s mountains hold deep history and remain an important part of Ayiti Cherie’s identity. 🇭🇹❤️

Motorbikes — commonly called "motos" — are the primary mode of transportation in Haiti. 🏍🇭🇹 They’re school buses, grocery carriers, ambulances, taxis, and lifelines for families every single day. And just when you think they're full, there's always room for one more! 😎

Life for Denise and Paul has been marked by constant caregiving—raising seven grandchildren due to the loss of the children's parents and adjusting to limited mobility after Denise suffered a stroke last year. ❤️‍🩹

In partnership with Free Wheelchair Mission, Hope Health Action, and the Walkabout Foundation, we were able to give Denise a custom fitted wheelchair. The change was immediate: less strain on Paul, more freedom and dignity for Denise, and a bit more stability as they raise their grandchildren.

The gift of mobility has ripple effects for generations. With this improved mobility, Denise and Paul hope to start a small business, which will help fund school fees to keep their grandchildren in school. Praise God for the gift of mobility! 🙌

The Y-KNOT House in Haiti was filled with so much joy this past weekend as we celebrated one of our own! 💒 Gesly, our amazing fifth grade teacher, and his wife celebrated their wedding surrounded by family and friends. Moments like these remind us that YKM is so much more than an organization — it’s a home and a family where we get to walk through life together. 💚 Join us in congratulating Gesly and Ernecie, and pray blessing over their marriage! 👏
