For the last few years, Journey Global Missions (JGM) has been processing all our donations. The Lord’s Table (the church that formerly processed our donations) has still accepted donations that come in, but it has been forwarding them to Journey Global Missions.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy, which occurred at a world heritage site near where our ministry is located in northern Haiti. We pray that the Lord would comfort the brokenhearted as only he can.

Over the weekend, Pastor Boulos' church in the countryside hosted a conference aimed at strengthening marriages. It drew over 180 people (regular attendance is below 100)! Clearly, it touched a nerve. When I was in Haiti last month, the pastors shared with me how inflation and a rising cost of living are affecting families. Parents are working longer and longer hours to make ends meet. We pray God would use the Biblical principles taught at the conference to help husbands, wives, and children commit to loving through hard times.

The picture is above is one of the beautiful flowers that grow in the front yard of the Deep River Mission guesthouse, which is where I stay whenever I’m in Haiti. I traveled there this month. My trip went well even though it rained nearly the entire week, turning the streets into shallow riverbed...

This morning, I had the privilege of preaching on 1 John 1:5-10 to our church in Ste-Philomene. It is a passage that has meant a lot to me over the years. It’s so simple, so clear, and so powerful. God will never excuse sin, but he will always forgive it. When our churches become places where it is safe to confess one’s sin, genuine community forms and people’s lives are transformed by the Gospel.

The weather threatened to cancel everything today but 10 Sunday school monitors or so still showed up and our pastors’ meeting went forward as scheduled.

After the Sunday school teachers class, a sister came up and said she needed to speak to me. She said she had had a dream in February in which she had seen me crying for help from the middle of a hurricane. She had been praying for me ever since. Once she learned I was coming to Haiti, she planned to tell me. Then she found out I wasn’t planning on speaking at the church she goes to so she thought she wouldn’t see me. She asked God to give her a chance to tell me about the dream. On Thursday, one of the pastors at her church just happened to ask me if I could teach this class. She didn’t know I was coming. When she woke up to a rainstorm this morning, she thought class might be canceled but she decided to go anyway. When she walked in and saw me, she knew she was meant to deliver her message. It greatly encouraged me and lined up with what we studied this morning. There are always things going on in the unseen realm we aren’t aware of, but God works everything together for the good of those who love him and are called according to his purpose.

“My name is Georges Marvens.
I am 8 years old. I am the third in a family of four. Daddy works the earth to take care of us. Mommy stays home to help us.
I am so happy to be at school because we don’t just learn but we get to eat too so we can be strong and do our lessons. When I grow up, I want to be a farmer!”

Thanks to our generous donors who make our school kid lunch program possible.
