Even when we are going through a difficult season, prayer does not call us to remain passive. It teaches us to believe, to persevere, and to become instruments in God’s hands.
A praying church becomes a church that is more compassionate, more generous, more watchful, and more courageous. We do not pray only, “Lord, take away our difficulties,” but also, “Lord, give us the wisdom, strength, and resources we need to walk through this season and to be a blessing to those who are suffering alongside us.”
In these very difficult times, God can use a farmer to produce food, one person to share with another, one family to support another family, a church to provide for vulnerable people, and men and women of goodwill to open a door where everything seemed closed.
This is how prayer becomes a force that produces real and tangible consequences in our community.
To our brothers and sisters in Haiti who are currently going through extremely difficult times: let us not lose courage. Our situation is difficult, but our God remains faithful. Let us continue to pray, support one another, share what we have, and believe that God can make a way where there seems to be no way.
And to you who are reading this message, and whom God may place on our path: sometimes, a small act of love can become the answer to someone’s prayer.
The Church prays. The Church hopes. The Church shares. The Church moves forward.
May God make us not only people who ask for help, but also instruments through whom He brings help, comfort, and hope to those who are suffering.
