Who was Guy Edward Bartkus?
Bartkus, 25, is from Twentynine Palms, a small city about 35 miles northeast of Palm Springs. He reportedly left an online manifesto in which he described himself as a pro-mortalist, stating people didn’t give consent to exist.

Bartkus left a 30-minute audio recording explaining his motive for the alleged attack. “I figured I would just make a recording explaining why I’ve decided to bomb an IVF building, or clinic,” he said. “Basically, it just comes down to I’m angry that I exist and that, you know, nobody got my consent to bring me here.”

The eternity this guy likely faces is horrific. I can remember feeling just like him when I was a child and our father left us. I didn't blame my parents, I blamed God.

I get this "renewal notice" every few months, and sometimes take the time to call the number to shine them on a bit. For whatever reason, Google does not throw these into spam like it does with most every other scam that comes along. It's likely some of you have seen the same. From all appearances it looks like they've taken $690 from your bank account. Don't panic.

The scammers are actually hoping you panic, call the number, and request a refund. In fact, unlike most normal companies with $700 on the line, they are all too eager to give you a refund. Here are a few tells:

1 - A human answers the phone. Legit corporations hide humans behind an insurmountable wall of computer responses.

2 - The email likely greets your email address, not your real name, but don't be surprised if they have your real name.

3 - The payment method "auto debit" mentions nothing about which bank or account the funds were taken from, because no funds have been taken, YET.

Once you agree to a refund they will direct you to download an app of their own design, that I'm thinking will log your keystrokes as you log into your own bank account. I'm not really sure as I was not about to download the app to which they referred me, but I've read similar tales.

Another lambing season begins. When I returned from my walk this morning this mother was anxiously bleating and walking in circles. I figured her time had come. Less than an hour later, the lamb was up and following its mother.

Many years ago we were on a long road trip to see a graduation ceremony. As we neared our destination, the sun was setting before us. The month was December. A young man in the passenger seat remarked that he knew we were headed west because we were facing the Sun. Bored by hours of silence as most of the passengers slept, I decided to add some commentary by replying “this time of year the sun actually sets south of west.” An older gentleman behind us immediately responded “Mark, you can’t tell me that’s not west.” As I am apt to do, I avoided an argument by remaining silent.

Included are two photos; one taken in June, another this morning. I tried to use the same perspective but the sun was so far out of the picture that I had to rotate the lens south to show the change. This change is why we have seasons. Our Summer begins when direct sunlight reaches the northern most point of the year, in June. Winter begins when it reaches the southern most point, in December.
