GOSPEL OF THE DAY
Matthew 7:6-14
"Do not give dogs what is holy; and do not throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under foot and turn to attack you.
"Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?
Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent?
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
So whatever you wish that men would do to you, do so to them; for this is the law and the prophets.
"Enter by the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is easy, that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.
For the gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
Reflection
Jesus says: "Do not give what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls before swine." This surprising teaching reveals that divine mysteries require hearts properly disposed to receive them. Not everyone is ready for every truth at every moment.
This is not about withholding the Gospel but about discernment in how we share it. A doctor doesn't prescribe the same medicine to every patient. Similarly, spiritual truths must be offered according to each person's capacity and readiness.
Do you share your faith with wisdom and sensitivity? Some people need gentle invitation; others need direct challenge. Ask the Holy Spirit for the gift of discernment—to know when to speak, when to wait, and how to present the precious pearls of truth entrusted to you.
