Dear friends and partners,
Acts 10:38 says "Jesus... went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. As a song that was popularized in the '70's by The Jesus people says, "I have decided to follow Jesus."
As God was with Jesus in those days long ago, God is with us today as we follow Jesus and do those things He has called us to do.
For 10 days this June a group of people, committed to doing good and healing, went to Guatemala. Our intention was letting our light shine in a dark place so that others might see our good works and give glory to our Father in heaven. This year we had the largest group of volunteers ever! Paul writes "One sows, another waters, but God gives the increase," and that is exactly what God has done. With about 25% more volunteers this summer we were able to bring that many more Bibles, medical supplies, and material donations like canes, walkers, personal hygiene products, and t-shirts. With each person bringing a minimum of 100 pounds and some bringing up to 140 pounds, we exceeded all precious years in total volume of good transported. When I say we took down "a ton of supplies" I'm not exaggerating, but in fact I would be underestimating our impact.
With Elim Central Church, the biggest church in Guatemala, hosting and providing us with the logistics, transportation, use of their building, and an abundance of faithful loving translators, we really stepped into a whole new level of ministry this year. With the help of our translators, many of which have helped us in past years, we were much better able to connect with those precious people we came to comfort and encourage. With the help of our translators we were better able to target specific needs and specific prayer requests, praying the prayer of agreement with each person, and coming alongside them with faith and compassion.
Without a translator we could only pray general blessings, comfort, and encouragement in English, and they really could not understand what we were praying. Although God understands English and Spanish, the recipients of our prayers were not being edified or built up in their faith as much as they could be. We had translators each year in the past but there were never enough to go around, and they had to take shifts to cover all the bases. But having the help of more translators meant each recipient was infused with faith to agree together with us and to expect to see the results forthcoming in their lives. This enabled them to continue to stand in faith as they went back into the everyday difficulties of their lives. When we prayed together with them in agreement and targeted their specific needs, our prayers increased in fervancy and effectiveness. (Matthew 18:19, James 5:16)
This side of heaven we will never know the full impact of the prayers we released in faith. So many needs, so many problems and sorrows were all being lifted up to the Father in faith. As the Word tells us "All things are possible to him that believes," and WE ARE BELIEVERS, NOT DOUBTERS. "And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us; and if we know that we hear us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him." 1 John 5:14 & 15
The doctors, nurses, and other medical providers, all of them compassionate and caring servants, talked with each patient, listening to their ailments, counseling them regarding lifestyle changes, and prescribing medications to help them in the healing process. When each one of our new Guatemalan friends left the church, they definitely recognized they had come into God's presence and seen His hand of mercy extended and His love manifested. It really is the goodness of God being demonstrated through His people - His ambassadors - that leads men and women to repentance, ushering them into the kingdom of His Son, Jesus. And that really is the purpose of these outreaches, to show others the love of the Father, and to introduce the One who knows them best and loves them most.
We also took the time to visit the two Christian schools that we have continued to support for many years now. All the students received donated Gideon New Testaments in Spanish. We prayed for them and they prayed for us, and they also sang a few songs for us. These children will grow up and raise the next generation to love and honor our Savior Jesus. I often think about the value of a godly heritage, and how godly parents impact generations to come.
I could go on and on, but I just want to know how much your donations impact the lives of these gentle and humble people. Thank you so very much, to each of you, our faithful sponsors, and to every person who gave of their time, talents, and treasure to assist in this endeavor. God bless you for helping us to help others! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts...
