The Last Ten Days of Ramadan & Lailatul Qadr
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and his companions. The last ten days of Ramadan are the most blessed days of the holy month, carrying immense rewards for those who seek closeness to Allah. During these nights, the gates of mercy are wide open, and it is an opportunity for every believer to increase in worship, seek forgiveness, and strive for righteousness.
One of the greatest blessings of these ten days is Lailatul Qadr (The Night of Power). Allah describes it in the Quran as “better than a thousand months” (Surah Al-Qadr: 3), meaning that worship performed on this single night is equivalent to worshipping for over 83 years. It is the night when the Quran was first revealed, and the angels descend with Allah’s decree for the coming year. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that whoever prays on this night with sincere faith and expectation of reward, all of their past sins will be forgiven (Bukhari & Muslim).
The exact night of Lailatul Qadr is unknown, but it is most likely to occur on one of the odd-numbered nights (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th) of the last ten days. For this reason, the Prophet ﷺ would dedicate himself completely to worship during this period. Aisha (RA) reported that when the last ten nights of Ramadan arrived, he would stay awake all night in worship, wake up his family, and increase his devotion (Bukhari & Muslim).
During these blessed nights, Muslims are encouraged to engage in night prayers (Tahajjud), recitation of the Quran, and making sincere dua. One of the most recommended supplications is: اللهم إنك عفو تحب العفو فاعف عني (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me). Additionally, giving charity (Sadaqah), helping those in need, and seeking knowledge are ways to earn multiplied rewards during this time. The Sunnah of Itikaf (seclusion in the mosque) is also highly recommended, as it allows a person to fully dedicate themselves to worship and reflection.
There are some signs that indicate Lailatul Qadr, including a peaceful and calm night, a sense of tranquility in the heart, and a sunrise the next morning with a soft, gentle light. However, even if one does not witness these signs, they should remain steadfast in worship throughout the last ten nights, hoping to catch its blessings.
The last ten nights of Ramadan are a time for self-reflection, repentance, and drawing closer to Allah. Every believer should take advantage of these nights by increasing their worship, seeking forgiveness, and praying for themselves, their loved ones, and the entire Ummah. May Allah allow us to witness Lailatul Qadr, accept our deeds, and grant us His mercy and forgiveness. Ameen.
Peace and blessings be upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, his family, and his companions.
