"GSIC Imam Training Program: Over 200 Imams Participate.

A week-long nationwide capacity-building training for Imams, organised by The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC), is currently underway at the council's headquarters in Kanifing, with over 200 Imams from across URR, CRR, NBR and LRR in attendance.
The training, which commenced on April 15, 2026, aims to equip religious leaders with an effective preaching methodology, focused on promoting peace, unity, and reconciliation within communities.
The GSIC emphasised the importance of constructive and peaceful messaging in sermons, noting that Imams play a vital role in fostering national cohesion.
Participants are undergoing training in areas such as effective communication, conflict resolution, and promotion of tolerance and mutual respect among citizens.
The ongoing training, supported by Direct Aid, forms part of GSIC’s broader efforts to strengthen partnerships and support religious leaders, contributing to sustainable peacebuilding and social harmony in The Gambia."
