Our hearts are sad that we weren’t able to visit Rafiki in 2020 due to the pandemic. I’ve been reminded recently of the gift it is to walk with our friends at Rafiki...it’s truly a gift to be there with them. Short-term mission trips can be complicated and damaging if done poorly, but they also can be life-changing. For the kids at Rafiki, showing up to be with them speaks. The kids REMEMBER the moments they have shared with our Rafiki alumni. Every time we’ve brought a new group, they’ll ask them if they know about the group before and the group before that. THAT is truly special. Our trips aren’t perfect and no doubt we continue to learn each year we go, but I can truly tell you that the impact from traveling to BE with them matters. And one of my favorite images during the trips is seeing moments like these—Rafiki kids taking the hands of RafikiFriends and intentionally walking hand in hand with them. It’s a beautiful picture of Jesus...it’s as if I can hear his sweet invitation: “Let the little children come to me.” — Katie

An update about Rafiki during this Corona pandemic by Rev. Dr. Isaac Nana Abekah, the Director of Methodist Rafiki •••

RAFIKI'S WAY OF KEEPING SAFE AT THIS ABNORMAL TIMES.

Methodist Rafiki Satellite Village is doing very well by God's grace. As the world has been on its knees due the coronavirus pandemic and is taking and observing all the necessary protocols to protect and prevent the spread, so is Rafiki practicing every protocol that will aid in keeping us safe and sound from the virus in Christ name.
We are observing social distancing whenever we come to church services. We have provided each child with a face mask. We have also provided 15 veronica buckets placed all over the compound and taught them to wash hands with soap frequently as they are available at every point where the buckets are.
One other thing is that, visitors are not to meet the children and that children not to come close to visitors either know or unknown. Gifts brought in are left untouched for some days.
The weekend off that mothers take in turns has been curtailed. Again we have asked the nonessential staff to stay at home as school is not in session.
Closely we are monitoring events as we pray that God in Christ takes away the coronavirus pandemic from all of us.

So thankful for this group! In so many ways, they have been the hands and feet of Jesus. Rafiki has been so blessed by their friendship! Tonight, the students leave while sister Katie and Ma Susie stay for a few more days. ❤️🇬🇭

We are so grateful for the work that is being done by the Methodist church Ghana — especially the Winneba diocese. Thank you for your partnership! [Ghana is hot and humid papapa! But we are alive and doing well and enjoying life at Rafiki].

Today at Rafiki, we are celebrating 11 years of ministry! We are grateful for the kingdom work being done daily at Rafiki. Looking forward to what’s to come... So thankful for all who partner with us!

Introducing Rafiki’s first graduating class from the Rafiki school! Among this group, there are four RafikiFriends kids: Kwesi, Kekeli, Justina,and Adjoa. We are so proud of their hard work! They have grown exceptionally in knowledge, leadership, skills, friendships, and so much more! In September, they will begin a new season at Senior High School at Boarding Schools. They will always have a place at Rafiki to return to during school holiday. We’re entering into a new chapter at Rafiki and are trusting God’s provision and guidance.
