MEDITATION
The basics of Meditation
Meditation has different meanings, to some, it is the act of clearing your mind from everything and being in a state of stillness. My simple explanation for meditation is worrying about something. However, in our case, it will be the word of God. Don't get it twisted, a lot of people have problems meditating. This makes it clear that meditation is nothing new, we all practice it just in a different way.
Worrying is a little bit different from meditation but I will use that to explain meditation in a practical way.
Now to worry about something;
1 That thing must have an effect on your life or current situation
2 That thing naturally sticks in your mind
3 It pops up in your mind when you are not even aware
4 You imagine the possible outcomes of the situation
5 Depending on how intense it is, you can become unaware of yourself while thinking about it
6 You can start to talk and make certain actions you are not even aware of
7 Eventually it brings you to a point you have to make a decision to do something or not
I know by now you have done some assessments using yourself as an example. If you have ever gone through this process, essentially you have meditated about that particular problem.
To the secular world, most problems have been solved this way. There gets to a point where your sub-conscience takes hold of the problem and when you think you are done with it, your subconscious brings new aspects of the issue up.
Bringing into the word of God, you must have a bible verse or a statement you want to meditate on. You can pray and select a verse or the Holy Spirit can lay it on your heart. Note that it should be a verse or statement you love and have memorized.
Just as a problem, it must be memorized, so that it sticks in your mind then it easily comes up because you love it. But a problem sticks and easily comes up because it bothers you. The process and effect are the same in the brain.
After this is achieved, you can now ponder over the Word by explaining it to yourself with different words and examples. Try to replace words in it with other words nearest in meaning. Put yourself in it, imagine you are the one saying it, or the one it is affecting. Imagine the possible outcome if you are to experience it or not to experience it. Ask questions. If you have access to other versions read them and look up the meaning of words in the dictionary.
As all this is going on, sometimes you will start to mutter words of the scripture or questions you are asking. There might come a time or a dimension you will moan, growl, speak and do other things because you won't be able to contain the revelation. You will get to a point where you might scream, get up from your seat, stand up, cry etc. It is different for everyone because we have different emotional responses to situations.
Worrying can make you behave this way. If you have not experienced it I am sure you know and have heard people go through this. We sometimes laugh about them.
The more you practice this, the scriptures you meditate on will become you. They will transform you just as your worries will transform you. It might be physical, mental, psychological and even spiritual and the word of God can do just that
Interestingly you might meditate on a bible verse for minutes to years.
Meditation is a learning process.
You must try your best to always have a notebook to write what comes up because the devil can steal a Rhema you get by making you forget. This has happened to me several times.
The Bible says the spirit will teach us all things. Therefore please invite the Holy Spirit to help you with the journey of meditation.
As a man thinketh so is he. We take lightly the word thinketh, please replace it with meditate. Then you will understand why our problems affect us more than God’s word.
I pray this will help Renew Your Mind so that you will spend at least 30 minutes every day meditating on the Word of God.
Remember consistency is the key.
