OUR STORY

Sogakope has been a town I have always wanted to either visit or live in considering its geographical position. It is a town located in the Volta Region of Ghana and also privileged to have the great Volta river passing through it. In fact it is because of the river that I like to visit.

On one of my visits July this year, I decided to take a stroll through town and I coincidentally met an Uncle of mine whom I didn't know was actually living there. Upon our meeting we hard a hearty chat and then I got to know that he ran an orphanage (he calls it a survival camp). So I asked him to take me there to see the work he was doing. When I got there, then I really got to understand why he called it a "Survival Camp".

I was overwhelmed by the facilities and structures there that I almost cried on the spot. All the structures were made of wood which were visibly worn off, the children in the orphanage were not that healthy due to malnutrition, they didn't attend any formal school and I saw desperation deeply written on my uncle's face. It was evident the orphanage desperately needed a saviour.
As we sat to chat, I asked him how it all started and this is what he had to say....

Three years after Uncle Emmanuel's high school education, while he had a job as a secretary in a local government organisation in Sogakope he had a bossom friend named Mawuli with whom he shared all his joys pain and aspirations. Mawuli was a hardworking mechanic who had a wife and a daughter named Olivia.
Life was good for them both until one day when Uncle Emma heard the news of his friends death through a car accident. He died on the spot. His wife who was then a midwife at a local hospital died a year later leaving their daughter Olivia in the care of Uncle Emma.

Uncle Emma who then didn't have a wife nor a child gladly took Olivia to cater for her. That incident left a traumatic experience on Uncle Emma. Since then he vowed to cater for the orphans in his community with the little he had. That gave birth to his Orphanage.

Upon my visit, Uncle Emma wasn't employed as he says he had to leave his secretarial job to look after his children (thats what he calls the orphans) and is left with only a small farm that brings little or no revenue to the orphanage. He says once in a while people who have heard of his good works come to donate some food items and some money but that doesn't sustain them for long.

After hearing his story which left tears in my eyes, I asked him to take me around to see the facility and i must say I was disappointed with their sleeping room as it was nothing good to write home about. They didn't have electricity as they wouldn't be able to afford the bills and also they didn't have a toilet facility so they always had to go into the bush.

I promised Uncle Emma to do my best to help him and his orphanage and just last week I made arrangements to build them a not so decent but better toilet facility.
I have written a number of emails to some organizations and they responded in the affirmative but we are yet to see any results or outcome.

Knowing generosity.com to be a helping community, I have decided to bring the story of Uncle Emma and his orphanage to you to help us uplift the living standards of this dear orphanage and also donate to a good course.

No amount is too small to donate, please do and you shall be blessed.

This campaigns funds are going to help in solving these problems:

Giving the orphanage home access to electricity.

Enrolling the children into basic education.

Renovating the entire orphanage and making it habitable.

Easing the pressure of feeding the orphanage.

Your kind donation will be very much appreciated.

For every donation made, a postcard will be sent to you with a message of gratitude with Little Olivia's very own pencil.

God Richly Bless You

Please make your kind donations here.
