LESSON 4

TOPIC: THE MEASURE OF GREATNESS

CENTRAL TRUTH:
Service to Christ and to others is the true measure of greatness.

MEMORY VERSE:
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as ransom for many. MARK 10:45

LESSON OBJECTIVES:
1. State the true measure of greatness.
2. Demonstrate the attitude of humility and service in at least two areas of his/her life as prerequisite for true greatness.

LESSON TEXT: MARK 10:35-45.

INTRODUCTION:
How often Jesus tried to prepare His disciples for His death! Yet, even when Calvary was just ahead, they seemed not to understand. True, there was opposition now in Galilee. In Jerusalem, the leaders had gone so far as to offer a reward for His arrest and capture. Yet, Jesus had just finished about six month in Perea where the crowds were just as enthusiastic as the people in Galilee had been at the height of His ministry there. Somehow, they seemed to feel that the One who had multiplied the loaves and fishes and who had walked on the sea could never let anything happen to either Him or them.
Then Jesus crossed the Jordan and took the main road west. When the disciples saw He was really going to Jerusalem, they began to draw back. It was customary for a shepherd to lead his flock and a teacher his students. But this was more than that. They were astounded as they sensed the strong feeling that moved Jesus on this final journey to Jerusalem and the cross.
Jesus, as the true shepherd, also sensed their amazement and knew that they were beginning to be afraid. With great patience and love, He stopped, took them aside, and began again to tell them what lay ahead. He would be betrayed to the Jewish religious leaders, lay ahead. He would be betrayed to the Jewish religious leaders, condemned to death, and handed over to pagans who would mock, Him, and kill Him. But on the third day He would rise again.
The disciples, however, did not seem to pay attention. None of this penetrated their thinking (Luke 18:34). They were too full of their own hopes, their own plans and their own desires.

LESSON 1 (FIRST LESSON FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR)

TOPIC: PAUL MINISTERS IN ROME

CENTRAL TRUTH: Faith in God will bring us safely through the storms of life.

MEMORY VERSE:
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to Gentile. Romans 1:16

LESSON OBJECTIVES:
1. Explain the role of miracles in soul winning.
2. Express faith in God in the midst of two or three specific challenges.

LESSON TEXT: ACTS 28:17-24.

INTRODUCTION:
God did not for Paul’s sake, save all on board the ship from death at sea. He did more. He supplied their needs so well that most were better off than before. The shore where they landed was indeed an island, now called Malta. It was south of Sicily and not too far off their course toward Rome. St. Paul’s Bay on Malta exists till this day.
Though Paul was still a prisoner, God continued to give him many new opportunities to witness. Thus, God not only continued to use Paul, He caused Paul’s example to inspire others to spread the gospel with the same boldness Paul showed (Philippians 1:12-14)

LIFE APPLICATION.

Q. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF DIVINE HEALING?
God does not intervene in the lives of His people to heal them simply because it is a more economical or easier way to deal with our sickness than medical science. A significant purpose of divine healing is to centre attention on our loving, omnipotent Father and to bring Him the resultant glory. This is explicitly mentioned in scriptural accounts of healing (ACTS 3:11-13; JOHN 9:3)
But our Father’s plan for healing does not stop there. Jesus healed people numerous times because He ‘’was moved with compassion toward them’’ (Matthew 14:14; also Mark 1:41). God’s love causes Him to heal people out of a desire to meet real and urgent human needs.
In New Testament times also, we are told that miracles, signs, and wonders took place to authenticate the gospel message and the gospel messengers (Hebrews 2:3, 4). Healing ministries were to be evident in the lives of all believers (Mark 16:18) and the incident on Malta gives every indication that is was as real in Paul’s life as in the lives of the Twelve.
Finally, God’s purpose in divine healing is intimately related to the building up of the Body of Christ. It is mentioned as one of the gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:28-30). These gifts are all part of the plan of God for nourishing and building up Christ’s Body to the full stature of the Perfect Man (Ephesians 4:11-16)

Focus on AG Womens' Ministries

Assemblies of God was only 11 years old when the first Women’s Ministries group was formed in America. In 1925, Mrs. Eitta Calhoun organized the group in Houston, Texas with Pastor William Morwood’s approval. The women met first for intercessory prayer for missionaries, but soon they found practical ways to help the missionaries as well. Mrs. Calhoun felt strongly that “as long as our work is done in the Spirit and for the love of God, God can, and will bless it The Women’s Ministries motto, “We minister as unto Christ”, had its roots in this early emphasis on the spiritual motivation for service.
Women’s groups were started by the missionaries early in the I940s in the Assemblies of God churches in various areas. There was a group in Yendi and Saboba in northern Ghana. The main purpose was for prayer but also to give advice on Christian character and child care. These groups grew and it then became necessary for the Church to embrace these groups as a department. In the early 1960s, the Woman’s Ministries became a department of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, and the ministry is patterned after the Women’s Ministries in the United States but is more adaptable to our country.
The Women’s Ministries is the organized group of women of Assemblies of God, Ghana, and is responsible for uniting the women to the Assemblies of God, Ghana fellowship, and Christian service according to the principles and doctrines of the church. Women’s Ministries meet together in the various local churches to study the word of God and to pray. They also help the needy in the church and neighborhood, as well as visit the sick. They also undertake personal evangelism and take the word of God into homes in the community.
Some of the activities and programmes are undertaken by the Women’s Ministries include training seminars, promotional rallies, retreats, and other activities. Members of the Women’s Ministries meet at least once a week and activities are financed from offerings and dues contributed by members. The leadership of the Women’s Ministries comprises the National Director elected at General Council and supported by Regional Women’s Ministries Directors elected at their respective Regional Council meetings.
The Women’s Ministries also have three auxiliary groups, namely:
Joy Fellowship- A ministry to bring working women together in evangelism and fellowship.

Young women in Action (“Y’s” for young single ladies)
The need for Christian counseling and guidance for the single young woman is the reason why the Women’s Ministries developed this Y’s programme. “Y’s” or Young Women in Action is organized for single young women. The official name “Young Women in Action” is shortened to Y’s for practical purposes. This group includes young women, aged between 16 and 30 years, to meet their physical, social, and spiritual needs. As an auxiliary of the Women’s Ministries, Y’s is sponsored by the national, regional, district, and local WM organizations.

Missionettes
This unique outreach of Women’s Ministries is designed to attract young girls from 3 to 20 years, to preach to them the word of God, and to teach them how to live a Christian life. Missionettes being an arm of Women’s Ministries, therefore, comes under the jurisdiction and control of the Women’s Ministries National Director the Auxiliary, and the Women’s Ministries Executive Board. The Missionette department has five clubs which include girls from age 3 until the time they get married.
