Liberia_Monrovia_ St. Joseph Salesian Community- Salesian Family welcomes 10 new Cooperators in fourfold celebrations.
Monrovia, Liberia- The St. Joseph Salesian Community on 8th Street, Sinkor, Monrovia, celebrated a day of faith and thanksgiving on Pentecost Sunday with a joint observance of Pentecost, the Feast of Mary Help of Christians, the 20th priestly anniversary thanksgiving of Rev. Fr. Peter Savio SDB, and the promise ceremony for ten new members of the Association of Salesian Cooperators for the South Africa West province (AOS)
The solemn Eucharist at Our Lady of Lebanon Catholic Church entrusted to the Salesians since 1979 was presided over by Fr. Peter Savio SDB, provincial delegate for the Salesian Family, with concelebrants including Fr. Albert D. Gibson SDB, Fr. Thomas Tran SDB, and animated by the youth choir led by Br. Omobayode Olukanni, SDB. The liturgy brought together clergy, religious, members of the Association of Mary Help of Christians (ADMA), Salesian Cooperators, past pupils and lay faithful who gathered to witness the admission of ten aspirants who completed an 18 month formation program. New cooperators received their promise in the presence of provincial delegate and community leaders, including Bro. D. Hector Quoi II, provincial coordinator for the South West Africa pronvince (AOS) anglophone countries.
The newly professed cooperators - among them Jordan O. Ketter, Robert W. Saytue, Jean Pello Pelle, Dad Emre Sieh, Mercy Abigail T. Nimley, Brenda Yarkpa, Musu Sackie, Queelyme Diamond Korkor, Julie P. Karley and S. Clarence Borbordee who is also the Liberia State Grand Knight of the Knights of Marshall pledged to serve the Church and young people following the Salesian charism. “Be true Salesian Cooperators among the people and especially the young people of today, living with the Spirit of the Risen Lord,” said Fr. Peter Savio, echoing themes from his homily on Pentecost. He called Mary “our Helper,” urging the cooperators to draw inspiration from Don Bosco and Mary’s maternal example in service and education.
The day also marked Fr. Peter Savio’s 20th anniversary of priestly ministry. During the Mass and a short felicitation program, community leaders and leaders of various organisations of the church honored the rector and presented him with sovieners and gifts.
Evening events included a PowerPoint presentation on the Salesian family, vespers and rosary at the grotto of Mary Help of Christians, a short video on the life of cooperators, and an open air celebration that reinforced a sense of community and mission.
Senior cooperators renewed their promises in the presence of distinguished guests including Rev. Fr. Augustine Okeke SDB, Rector of Blessed Stephan Sandor community Matadi and Rev. Fr. Sumo Varfee Molubah, Education Secretary of the Archdiocese of Monrovia and many religious sisters from different congregrations.
The celebration concluded with Salesian family koinonia. D. Hector Quoi II coordinator of cooperators, reported ten newly professed members and six renewed promises, with fifteen aspirants currently in formation at St Joseph community.
