The God of miracles 3

“Jesus said to him, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’. And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked …” (John 5:8-9, NKJV).

The healing of the cripple at the pool of Bethesda is another of Jesus’ miraculous signs recorded by Apostle John. How the sick got healed by jumping into the pool after an angel had stirred it, was miraculous in itself. It cannot be explained by natural laws. By it, God had a testimony in the nation. The strange thing about it was that only the first person who got in was healed. So it cannot be said that the healing virtue was in the water. It came with the angel.

A very interesting question that arises is, “Did it require faith?” The answer could be “Yes”, because a sick person had to believe that he/she would be healed in order to jump into it. On the other hand, it could be said that it did not really require faith in the strict sense. Because the condition for healing was being the first to jump in after the stirring. Even if there was a split second between the first and next persons to land in the water, only the first would be healed!

Enters Jesus. He highlighted a concept of faith that had to do with direct response to the word of God. Anything less than that is not biblical faith. This thought is crucial because many modern concepts of faith have come up, which seek to undermine true Christian faith. Examples are faith in the ability of medicines to cure disease, and the confidence that makes us sit on a chair, because we believe it can support our weight.

These could be a fair illustration of the concept of faith. But it could be called “naturalistic faith”. Medicines heal by their natural chemical components, and chairs support our weight by their physical make up. “Faith” in this context, is in a physical object, and natural or chemical laws. Christian faith depends entirely on the word of God, God’s power, and our response to it. In that sense, faith can be said to be a spiritual law; a supernatural principle. It operates by the presence of God in His word and by His Spirit.

Jesus’ talk with the sick man revealed the man’s limited concept of faith. Jesus asked him, “Do you want to be made whole?” It looked like a mockery, because the man would not have been lying there for so long if he didn’t desire healing. But Jesus was drawing him to true biblical faith; faith that comes by hearing the word of God. His frustration ended when he heard the words, “Rise, take up your bed and walk”. Faith came, and immediately he was made well.

When faith is reduced to confidence in natural and chemical laws, the word of God is emptied of its power; genuine faith will be absent, and real miracles will be rare.

Prayer: Lord, open my heart to Your word, that I may receive faith for the miraculous. Amen!

Learning obedience 12

“Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided” (Exod. 14:21, NKJV).

The crossing of the Red Sea is one of the highlights of Israel’s deliverance from Egypt. My interest today is what lesson we can learn from it in relation to obedience. In that episode, we see God giving instructions to Moses, Moses obeying, and God working a miracle. The lesson for us is that our obedience opens the door for the release of God’s supernatural power.

The drama began by God asking Moses to tell the people to encamp at an impossible location. The place had hills on both sides, and the Red Sea before them. Humanly speaking it did not make sense. But it was a trap for Pharaoh. He would think that the wilderness had closed Israel in. God would harden Pharaoh’s heart and he would pursue them to his destruction and that of his entire army.

So it was, when Pharaoh heard that Israel had left his territory, he changed his mind, and decided to go and bring them back by force. He mustered the best of his chariots and fighting men and pursued them. Imagine the reaction of the people, when they saw Pharaoh’s army behind them coupled with the location they found themselves! They were stricken with fear, and began to complain against Moses for leading them into that difficult situation. That would be a challenge for any leader, but Moses had heard from the LORD. That was his guarantee.

Moses down calmed the people. He told them not to be afraid, but to be still and see the salvation of the LORD. He also assured them that the LORD would fight for them, and they would hold their peace. But as a leader, he still had a decision to make, and action to take! In fact, it was not time for “prayer”, but action. God told him to tell the people to go forward. Into the sea? He was to lift up his rod, stretch his hand over the sea, and divide it. How could such action bring such results? But that is how our obedience yields supernatural results.

Could God not just send the east wind and divide the sea? He could, but He required Moses’ involvement in the miracle. So in obedience, “Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided”. Moses didn’t have to bring the wind, but without his obedience nothing would have happened.

The word of God may not make human sense, but our obedience is our wisdom. Obedience recognizes the wisdom of God’s commands, and releases His supernatural power on our behalf.

Prayer: Father, grant me the grace and wisdom to obey You no matter how difficult the situation I may find myself in. And as I obey, release Your supernatural power, in Jesus’ name. Amen!

*COVER THEM UP INSTEAD OF EXPOSING THEM*

After I had cleaned and tidied up my house, my brother phoned me and said, "My wife and I are coming to visit you."
I went to my kitchen to prepare something for them, but I could not find anything available to serve them.
After much thought and search, all I could lay my hands on were a few oranges. Therefore, I made two cups of cold juice immediately.
When my brother and his wife arrived I was shocked to see his mother-in-law with them, who came to visit us for the first time.
So I served the two cups of juice to his wife and her mother, and I placed a cup of water in front of my brother, saying, 'I know that you like 7Up.'
He drank a sip and realised that it was water.
And suddenly his mother-in-law said, I'm feeling for 7Up. Please give it to me!
Here I was, baffled and caught up with embarrassment.
But my brother saved me by saying to her, 'I will bring you a clean glass from the kitchen.
After a while we heard the sound of a glass breaking in the kitchen. He then came back and told his mother-in-law, 'Sorry, it fell from my hands and the glass broke. But no problem, I will go to the shop to get another one.
His mother-in-law refused and said, "There is no need for that. It was not meant for me anyway."
Eventually when they were going, my brother bid me farewell and placed some money into my hand and said, "Don't forget to clean the kitchen of the 7Up so that ants do not come." And he bid me farewell with a smile and love.
In this way, my brother considered my feelings and concealed my shortcoming.
THIS IS SIBLING LOVE, AND BLOOD RELATIONSHIP.
When you're in a position, use it to lift others.
Running anyone down will never make you better!

Let me ask👇
*How do you treat your*
*SIBLINGS?*
*FRIENDS?*
*FAMILY?*
*COLLEAGUES, etc*

*Do you cover-up their shame or you expose them?*

*A food for thought!*

Gone were the days when Parents used to advice their young daughters to settle with men they were together going to face life with. Today, No matter the assurances and advice given to you by a woman, my dear young man I'll fully advice you to make money before you enter into marriage.

The sad reality is most women want a man they’ll depend on, not a man they’ll support.

Most independent women don’t date men that cannot spend on them. They prefer men who will spend on them without having to ask them, even if the women have their own money.

Marriages that usually start of with little or nothing in my experience is almost always sitting on a time bomb in our modern day. It doesn't matter how good a woman may be from the beginning, be rest assured that the storms are coming and women almost always don't do very well with these storms.

Men will be better off to choose money over love if they want to enjoy their relationship. It’s more bearable to lose a lover when you’re rich than when you’re not rich.

Of course, there are exceptions. If you’re certain you’ve met one of the few ladies that date for love and not comfort, you can take that risk.

In my opinion, if she loves you even in your poverty, she can wait for you to make enough money to be able to settle comfortably.

Note: The love and respect of a woman for her husband is always conditional.( Don't argue until you experience it)
