Delegates Overwhelmingly Vote to Elect Pastor Erton C. Köhler as New General Conference President
St. Louis, Missouri — July 4, 2025
In a historic decision at the 62nd General Conference Session of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, delegates from around the world have overwhelmingly voted for Pastor Erton C. Köhler as the new President of the General Conference.
In his acceptance remarks, Pastor Köhler expressed deep humility and a renewed commitment to the mission of the Church. I like to renew my confidence in my God and the church. We are moving forward, trusting in the goodness of God. I count on your support, your kindness, and this is no time for division. Our mission will be accomplished if we come together, which is his plea to the church. "Let us move forward together," the new president said.
Delegates responded with claps of affirmation
Pastor Köhler, who has served as the Executive Secretary of the General Conference since 2021, was nominated earlier this week by the Nominating Committee. His election marks a new chapter in the leadership of the global Adventist Church, following the tenure of Elder Ted N. C. Wilson.
Born in southern Brazil, Pastor Köhler brings over 30 years of ministry experience, including 14 years as President of the South American Division. Known for his strategic leadership, mission-driven focus, and multilingual fluency, Köhler has played a pivotal role in advancing global mission initiatives and strengthening administrative systems across the Adventist world.
The General Conference Session continues this week with additional elections, reports, and mission-focused presentations.
