Official Page for the Tarkwa Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana
The Tarkwa Diocese, then District, was carved out of the present Sekondi Diocese in 1984 for easy administration of the churchesโ activities in the diocese. However, it is one of the few vast dioceses with very poor road networks and low human resources for church activities. These conditions create a situation tha
t makes the administration of the diocese challenging. Consequently, Conference in 2008 supported the creation of a new diocese out of the present diocese. The District had its first branch membership of the Association from Dunkwa Wesley in November 18, 1987 with a reference number of 62. The then Chairman of the Dunkwa Wesley Branch Fellowship, Bro. Ofori (deceased) acted by default as the district representative at the National Executive Council meetings from 1987 to 1990. Within the period, Tarkwa Gaddiel Acquaah branch was inaugurated in 1988 and an interim District Council under the Chairmanship of Bro. Ofori was in place till 1990 when the first Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the diocese was organized in Tarkwa.
