DAILY BREAD OF LIFE (MAT.4:4)
TODAY'S BIBLE READING, PHILIPAINS.3

✅VS.1-11
The apostle calls the false prophets dumb dogs, Isa.56:10. Dogs, for their malice against faithful professors of the Gospel of Christ, barking at them and biting them.
They urged human works in opposition to the faith of Christ; but Paul calls them evil-workers.

The work of religion is to no purpose, unless the heart is in it, and we must worship God in the strength and grace of the holy Spirit.
If Paul would have gloried and trusted in the flesh, he had as much cause as any man. But the things which he counted gain while a Pharisee, and had reckoned up, those he counted loss for Christ.
True knowledge of Christ alters and changes men, their judgments and manners, and makes them new creatures. He prefers Christ, knowing that it is better for us to be without all wordly riches, than without Christ and His Word.

We are made conformable to Christ's death, when we die to sin, as He died for sin; and the world is crucified to us, and we are to the world, by the cross of Christ.
The apostle was willing to do or to suffer any thing, to attain the glorious resurrection of saints. This hope and prospect carried him through all difficulties in his work. He did not hope to attain it through his own merit and righteousness, but through the merit and righteousness of Jesus Christ.

EXHORTATION TO KNOW CHRIST
✅VS.12-16
He who runs a race, must never stop short of the end, but press forward as far he can; so those who have Heaven in their view, must still press forward to it, in holy desires and hopes.
Eternal life is a gift of God, but it is procured for us by Christ Jesus, and He is the only way to Heaven.
True believers, in seeking this assurance, will seek more nearly to resemble His sufferings and death, by dying to sin, and by crucifying the flesh with its affections and lusts.

*MARANATHA MORNING DEVOTION*

*Life Eternal Begins Now*

*This is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 1 John 5:11.*

The resurrection of Jesus was a sample of the final resurrection of all who sleep in Him.

He [the Christian] may die; but the life of Christ is in him, and at the resurrection of the just he will rise to newness of life.

“In him [Christ] was life; and the life was the light of men.” It is not physical life that is here specified, but immortality, the life which is exclusively the property of God. The Word, who was with God, and who was God, had this life. Physical life is something which each individual receives. It is not eternal or immortal; for God, the Life-giver, takes it again. Man has no control over his life.

But the life of Christ was unborrowed. No one can take this life from Him. “I lay it down of myself,” He said. In Him was life, original, unborrowed, underived. This life is not inherent in man. He can possess it only through Christ.

While bearing human nature, He [Christ] was dependent upon the Omnipotent for His life. In His humanity, He laid hold of the divinity of God; and this every member of the human family has the privilege of doing....

If we repent of our transgression, and receive Christ as the Life-giver, ... we become one with Him, and our will is brought into harmony with the divine will. We become partakers of the life of Christ, which is eternal. We derive immortality from God by receiving the life of Christ, for in Christ dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. This life is the mystical union and cooperation of the divine with the human.

Christ became one flesh with us, in order that we might become one spirit with Him. It is by virtue of this union that we are to come forth from the grave—not merely as a manifestation of the power of Christ, but because, through faith, His life has become ours.

Those who see Christ in His true character, and receive Him i

THE MYSTERY OF THE CHURCH
✅VS.1-7
All the gracious offers of the Gospel, and the joyful tidings it contains, come from the rich grace of God; it is the great means by which the Spirit works grace in the souls of men.

The mystery of the church, is that secret, hidden purpose of salvation through Christ.
This was not so fully and clearly shown in the ages before Christ, as unto the prophets of the New Testament.
This was the great truth made known to the apostles, that God would call the Gentiles to salvation by faith in Christ, Eph.1:9,10.

An effectual working of Divine power attends the gift of Divine grace. As God appoints His ministers to office, so He qualifies them for it.

✅VS.8-12
How highly did the apostle speaks of the unsearchable riches of Jesus Christ! Though many are not enriched with these riches; yet how great a favor to have them preached among us, and to have an offer of them! And if we are not enriched with them it is our fault, Jn.5:39; Mat.11:25.

The first creation, when God made all things out of nothing, and the new creation, whereby sinners are made new creatures by converting grace, are of God by Jesus Christ, Heb.1:8-10.
His riches are as unsearchable and as sure as ever, yet while angels adore the wisdom of God in the redemption of the church, the ignorance of self-wise and carnal men deems the whole to be foolishness, 1Pet.1:12; 1Cor.1:18.

How desirable to have a fixed sense of the love of God in Christ to our souls!
How powerful the apostle speaks of the love of Christ!
✔The breadth shows its extent to all nations and ranks.
✔The lenght, that it continues from everlasting to everlasting.
✔The depth, its saving those who are sunk into the depth of sin and misery.
✔And the height, its raising them up to Heavenly happiness and glory.

LESSON 4

THE DISCIPLES AND THE SABBATH

You are welcome to another edition of *Insights from God's Word*, a Bible study programme that is committed to sharing God's Word by allowing the Bible to speak for itself.

In this edition, we continue with our series on *The Sabbath Question.* The topic for this study is: _The Disciples and the Sabbath._ In this study, I will want us to consider the attitude of the disciples in relation to the Sabbath after Christ had ascended to heaven.

From our previous study, we noted that if there was any group of people who had the right to disregard the Seventh-day Sabbath because Christ had given them a new commandment to make them do so, it certainly should have been the disciples of our Lord. However, we found out that immediately after the death of Christ, the women who had followed after Him from Jerusalem kept the Seventh-day Sabbath according to the commandment (see Luke 23:50-56).

Beloved, before Christ ascended to heaven, He gave the disciples the commission to proclaim the gospel to the entire world (see Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15). In pursuing this commission, the disciples continued to keep the Seventh-day Sabbath whether at home in Israel or when they travelled to Gentile territories. We find records of the apostle Paul and others participating in several Sabbath meetings in the book of Acts. Let us consider a few of such biblical accounts:

1) PAUL AND SILAS KEPT THE SABBATH IN THESSALONICA

As we follow the story of the early disciples of Jesus, one fact we cannot overlook is how they kept on keeping the Seventh-day Sabbath. Contrary to popular opinion, even the apostle Paul kept the Seventh-day Sabbath on his missionary journeys in various Gentile lands. Friends, even as Christ had a custom of attending church every Sabbath (see Luke 4:16), so was the apostle Paul. From Acts 17:1-4, we read about the attitude of Paul in regard to the Seventh-day Sabbath:

"17:1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollo

*A Little Time of Peace, September 8*

*For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 1 Thessalonians 5:3.*

*While the work of salvation is closing, trouble will be coming on the earth, and the nations will be angry, yet held in check so as not to prevent the work of the third angel. At that time the “latter rain,” or refreshing from the presence of the Lord, will come, to give power to the loud voice of the third angel, and prepare the saints to stand in the period when the seven last plagues shall be poured out.*

*I was shown the inhabitants of the earth in the utmost confusion. War, bloodshed, privation, want, famine, and pestilence were abroad in the land. As these things surrounded God’s people, they began to press together, and to cast aside their little difficulties. Self-dignity no longer controlled them; deep humility took its place. Suffering, perplexity, and privation caused reason to resume its throne, and the passionate and unreasonable man became sane, and acted with discretion and wisdom.*

*My attention was then called from the scene. There seemed to be a little time of peace. Once more the inhabitants of the earth were presented before me; and again everything was in the utmost confusion. Strife, war, and bloodshed, with famine and pestilence, raged everywhere. Other nations were engaged in this war and confusion. War caused famine. Want and bloodshed caused pestilence. And then men’s hearts failed them for fear, “and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth.”*

*Angels are now restraining the winds of strife, until the world shall be warned of its coming doom; but a storm is gathering, ready to burst upon the earth, and when God shall bid His angels loose the winds, there will be such a scene

*Future Events Come in Order, September 7*

*But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 1 Thessalonians 5:4.*

I saw that Jesus would not leave the most holy place until every case was decided either for salvation or destruction, and that the wrath of God could not come until Jesus had finished His work in the most holy place, laid off His priestly attire, and clothed Himself with the garments of vengeance. Then Jesus will step out from between the Father and man, and God will keep silence no longer, but pour out His wrath on those who have rejected His truth. I saw that the anger of the nations, the wrath of God, and the time to judge the dead were separate and distinct, one following the other, also that Michael had not stood up, and that the time of trouble, such as never was, had not yet commenced. The nations are now getting angry, but when our High Priest has finished His work in the sanctuary, He will stand up, put on the garments of vengeance, and then the seven last plagues will be poured out.

I saw that the four angels would hold the four winds until Jesus’ work was done in the sanctuary, and then will come the seven last plagues. These plagues enraged the wicked against the righteous; they thought that we had brought the judgments of God upon them, and that if they could rid the earth of us, the plagues would then be stayed. A decree went forth to slay the saints, which caused them to cry day and night for deliverance. This was the time of Jacob’s trouble. Then all the saints cried out with anguish of spirit, and were delivered by the voice of God.

Before His crucifixion the Saviour explained to His disciples that He was to be put to death and to rise again from the tomb.... But the disciples were looking for temporal deliverance from the Roman yoke, and they could not tolerate the thought that He in who

September 5 marks the beginning of the “Family Togetherness Week of Prayer.”

In this video, Pastor Ted Wilson and his wife, Nancy, discuss the role of the family in evangelism.

God created the first family in the Garden of Eden. Since then, the family has been the building block of society and the church of God. But did you know that it could be a powerful witness for God?

On page 32 of The Adventist Home, it says: "The greatest evidence of the power of Christianity that can be presented to the world is a well-ordered, well-disciplined family. This will recommend the truth as nothing else can, for it is a living witness of its practical power upon the heart."

Well-ordered, well-disciplined family – sounds like a very high ideal, right? As human beings who fall short, it seems impossible to achieve that. But God doesn’t ask us to do the impossible. He said, "Whatever is to be done at His command may be accomplished in His strength. All His biddings are enablings" (Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 333).

The Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy provide us with plenty of instructions about having a happy, God-filled home. But practicing it is not that easy. This is why we need to be close to God through Bible study and prayer.

Also, ask for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit daily. By then, we can have the fruit of the Spirit. According to Galatians 5:22, 23, it is “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law."

Having this fruit, we can learn and grow in Christ and become effective witnesses for Him.
