This week in Rome, the Anglican Communion Health and Community Network joined a landmark global gathering, bringing together Catholic, Methodist and Anglican partners to tackle one of healthcare's most overlooked crises: the absence of clean water and sanitation in health facilities across the world's poorest countries.
The two-day meeting, called 'Committed to WASH in Healthcare Facilities: A Gathering of Faith-based Organizations and Allies to Accelerate Progress,' took place at the Jesuit Curia, close to St. Peter's Square, under the Patronage of the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.
37% of healthcare facilities in low-resource settings lack basic water. 81% lack adequate sanitation. Faith-based organisations, who deliver up to half of all healthcare in these contexts, are committed to changing that.
