God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat do

The Spirit of the Lord God Almighty and His Son Jesus the Christ have diverse ways of bringing the children of God together for fellowship and edification. And the formation of God is Our Light Church, a charismatic, protestant Christian body, is such one means by which the Trinity moved holy men and women of old to gather God’s people and transform them into the image of Christ. Like the birthing of the early church in the book of Acts after the day of Pentecost, the ministry was laboured into existence not by an individual but by a group of spirit-filled young men and women upon God’s direction on October 13, 1933 in Ghana, with J.S Coomson of blessed memory as the appointed head. Other key members were I.K.A Barnes, J.D. Mensah, Paa Yadonu, Paa Ankomah, Paa Essandoh and Paa Essel to name but a few. However, amongst the men was the youngest by name Isaac K. Barkers, a nephew of Paa Barnes, who eventually became the arrow head of the ministry with his wife in later years. Also, outstanding founding mothers included Finba Coomson, Hinson Barkers, Esi Yakoba, and Hagar Yadonu. It was a vibrant fellowship with prayer and evangelism as their primary calling. Their fellowship meetings gradually moved from the open field to an enclosed area. Amanful, a community within the city of Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana, eventually became the blessed place where the ministry had its meetings as a corporate spiritual body. Appropriately put, these faithful young men and women formed the first generation in the annals of the ministry. A second generation of leaders of the ministry emerged after several years of faithful service and mentorship under the first. This generation had a couple, the late Rev. and Mrs. K. Barkers as the ministry’s arrow head, as indicated earlier.
