THE CHRISTOCENTRIC CHURCH

ACTS 5:42
And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ. (KJV)

The church in the context of today’s studies is in reference to the local assembly of believers or which we often call my church or denomination. We have different churches with different church cultures and doctrinal convictions. We have churches with many branches and a living founder. Some churches have no branches for which some people call it one-man church. Some of the churches are termed orthodox, charismatic or Pentecostal. All these differences and their names matter less. The main important factor one must consider is the message the church preaches or their doctrinal convictions. Whether it is a one-man church, living or dead founder, new or old church, orthodox or Pentecostal, the most important determining factor of a good church is the message it preaches. The fact that a church is popular with a well-organized leadership structure does not make it a good church if the message it preaches is not the message of Christ.

The message of the church is the message of Christ. The message of Christ is the message of God’s love expressed through the death and resurrection of Christ. It involves teaching the believer who he is in Christ, what he has in Christ and what Christ can do through the believer as the result of the death and resurrection of Christ. Any church that teaches the message of Christ is termed a Christocentric church. From our opening text, the apostles daily in the temple and on every house, ceased not to preach and teach Christ. The apostolic church that was handed down to us was a Christocentric church. They emphasized the realities in Christ and all that Christ accomplished for us. The focus of their teaching was Christ. They taught everything from the context of the finished work of Christ.

THE BLOOD OF JESUS

MATTHEW 26: 28
For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. (KJV)

It is an undeniable truth that the blood of Jesus is powerful. You often hear the calling of the blood at prayer meetings. Some believers call the blood at every experience or encounter. At meals, sleeping time, driving, social functions and many instances the blood of Jesus is mentioned. However, it is possible to abuse the purpose of the blood of Jesus out of ignorance. Some people pray to spiritually fill their pen with the blood of Jesus in order to pass their exams. Others daily soak themselves in the blood of Jesus for protection, whiles others pray using the blood to spray on witches. This is when we ignorantly assume the blood of Jesus to be some pool of red liquid somewhere for our use. This ignorant application of the blood is birthed from our African Traditional religion and probably how blood was applied in the Old Testament. In the Old Testament, the blood of animals was used as the typology of the blood of Jesus. Blood was mostly used for the atonement of sin annually by the high priest in the holy of hollies. The main purpose of Jesus shedding his blood was for the remission of sins.

Jesus the lamb of God has been sacrificed. The blood of Jesus was not shed to kill witches. It was not shed to make us get more money or for us to use it to cover our roads or spray our farms to kill insects. The blood is not a multipurpose liquid for our use. It was shed for the specific purpose of the remission of sins. Colossians 1:14, “In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins”. John also testified in John 1:29, “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world”. Scripture: James 4:4

*You have become spiritual adulterers who are having an affair, an unholy relationship with the world. Don’t you know that flirting with the world’s values places you at odds with God? Whoever chooses to be the world’s friend makes himself God’s enemy!*

Hints: Naturally our flesh or body desire the things of the world. For this cause Paul in the book of 1 Corinthians 9:27 said "I bring my body into subjection". When a man is not led by the Spirit then he is being led by the flesh. Apostle James said that friendship with the world is an enmity unto God. This means that anyone who put himself or herself unto the world becomes God's enemy.
God is Spirit and has nothing to do with the flesh. Any believer who find pleasure in worldly stuffs cannot connect well with God. Jesus said we should deny ourselves and follow him. We can't accept Jesus and still follow our flesh. We need to live the Spirit life.

Prayer: Father help me to deny worldly pleasures and follow you keenly. I put my body under your subjection. I live the Spirit Life

Scripture: James 4:3

*NIV:When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.*

Hints: One of the cause of unanswered prayers is asking amiss. Literally, whatever you have is for the benefit of others. God desire as to ask for things that will benefit us and others too as well. It is good to pray for yourself but best to pray for others also. God is ever ready to answer all our prayers but our intensions tend to redraw our answers. We should not just pray but we should pray good prayers so that we can celebrate answered prayers.

Prayer: Father help me not to pray amiss. I pray that my motives are corrected in Jesus name. Help me to celebrate answered prayers.

I am a child of God, I pray good and educated prayers, my motives are corrected.

Scripture: James 3:14

*NIV:But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.*

Hints: Apostle James is telling us to do heart check and make sure we find out what is not good in our heart and work on it. There are many things that is not good in our heart genuinely that we are supposed to admit it and work on it. If we are able to admit our weaknesses the Holy Spirit will help us to overcome it. Most believers don't have good character but always try to deny it. It is good to work on our character. We should not harbor bitterness, envy , selfish ambitions in us as children of God. There's a saying that " work on your character and God will take care of your charism".

Prayer: Father help me to build a good character. Help me to accept corrections on my character. Father help me in my weakness.

Scripture: James 3:10

*KJV:Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.*

Hints: God has made the words of his children so powerful to the extent that whatever we declare is established. Apostle James is making it clear here that it is not good for us to use our mouth to say evil stuffs but rather good words. Evil should not proceed out of our mouth as Children of God. We should say good things always and give right answers no matter how annoying the question may be. We should not use our mouth to say words that will pain others as well. This is what Apostle Paul has to say in Ephesians 4:29, " *Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers."*

Prayer: Father help me to use my mouth to say good words. My words bringeth life and light, and not darkness in Jesus name....Amen

I am a child of God, i speak life and not death, good things come from my mouth always. I give good answers to any question. Help me God

Scripture: James 1:2

*My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest joy that you can!*

Hints: As believers we should know that temptations are bound to happen each day. We should be happy when we meet temptations because it test and builds our faith. What we go through in life sometimes gives us an experience. God has given us the power to overcome temptations. He has already made us victorious in any trial that's why we always win. Anytime we overcome a temptation we grow to the next stage of our life. Be vigilant and overcome every temptations. In case you have fallen into any trap be ready to come to Jesus and He will help you. Hallelujah

Prayer: Father I thank you for giving me victory over every temptation, help me to grow to overcome daily trial in Jesus name... Amen

Scripture: Philippians 4:19

*KJV:But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.*

Hints: After Paul taught the people of Philippe the blessing of giving and sacrificing and how it is credited into their account he prayed for them that God will supply all their needs according to the riches of glory in Christ Jesus. Anytime we sow and sacrifice for great people their prayers begin to work for us. Prayer is very good but there are some request that is answered by giving and sacrificing not prayer.
Men can provide some of our needs but it is only God that can provide all our need. What God cannot do does not exist. If God doesn't give us something we should not try to get it elsewhere. Getting some things outside God is dangerous. Living a luxury life is good but It is not everything that we need in this life. We should try to get only what God want us to have.

Prayer: Father supply all my needs in Christ Jesus, give me only what I should have in this life... Amen

Scripture: Philippians 4:17

*AMP:Not that I seek or am eager for [your] gift, but I do seek and am eager for the fruit which increases to your credit [the harvest of blessing that is accumulating to your account].*

Hints: Paul is teaching us something great here. Many times when Pastors or leaders turn to talk about the need for giving, tithing , sacrifice, the children of God turn to think that the leaders want to force them and take their money and sacrifices.
Paul told the people of Philippe that he doesn't desire their gift but he is interested in the increase of blessing that will be credited into their account. The truth is anyone who says he or she loves God but cannot give to God or man of God is lying. We should rather think of the blessings that comes of the sacrifice than the sacrifice itself. Just as there are people interested in our money and other things there are also genuine people who don't need our money but want us to be blessed. Have you sowed into someones life before? If yes, may God honor you but if no then It's time to sow , sacrifice for your Pastor, leaders, shepherds, family, friends, neighbors. Hallelujah

Prayer: Father I thank you for teaching me the need to sow into the life of people. Help me to be consistent in sacrificing to people.

Scripture: Philippians 4:7
KJV:Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Hints: Paul adviced the people of Philippe to continually fix their thought on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report etc . This is very essential because it helps Christ to be seen in the believer. We have the very mind and life of Christ but we choose to live how we want. This means that we're not carnal beings. The problem is we're Spiritual people who are trying to live carnally. If a man in Christ is able to walk by the leadings of the Spirit he or she can walk in the things that Paul mentioned in the above text. Let us therefore live as children of light.

Prayer: Father I thank you for giving me your very life and mind, help me to live like you in all the days of my life.
