DRESS IT AND KEEP IT

And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. Genesis 2:15

The almighty God is the most efficient conservationist. With Him, there is no wastage or corruption unlike many so-called children of God. Right from Genesis, we read about how God commanded Adam to make sure the beautiful garden did not suffer decay or any pollution. There are many ways in which one can preserve or pollute a God-given gift. The ‘land’ can be polluted by sin of all sorts particularly idolatry and/or witchcraft. In the text of today, we are confronted with the seriousness God attaches to the preservation of His creation.

“When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or an enchanger, or a witch.” Deuteronomy 18:9-10

According to Exodus 20:3, idolatry is the most grievous sin against God. Adam automatically chose another god for himself when he decided to obey the devil rather than God. This is what many people don’t know; they think until they put an image on the ground and they begin to bow to it, they have not committed idolatry. It is obvious that there are idolaters in the Church; they always attend Church programmes but they never do what God wants them to do. The Bible says: “And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.” Ezekiel 33:31

By disobeying the Word of God, people pollute the land and bring eternal curses upon themselves and generations after them. this was exactly what the first man did and God cursed the land for his sake (Genesis 3:17). To keep the land which the Lord has given us to inhabit, we must obey Him and live according to His Word. When we do this, our land will be free from evil and it will yield great increase for our pleasure (Deuteronomy 28). I encourage you reading this devotional to give your life to Jesus Christ today and begin to live according to His Word from now on. The seemingly barren or polluted land upon which you are living will turn out to be fruitful and blessed.

MEDITATION

Think about how you have lived your life in the past; see if you have polluted the land in anyway, repent and call on God for forgiveness so that Gods time of refreshing will come upon your life.

HABITS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. James 3:2-3 KJV

The more you practice speaking words that bring life and edify, the more you are going to speak with less negativity! When dogs are trained, doesn’t a master have to create a habit or a pattern for them to follow? In the same manner, we can discipline our tongues by the little habits we create each day!

Beloved, a gloomy and negative atmosphere in the house is sometimes a result of negative words that have been spoken and are floating in the air! If you want to change the atmosphere and direction of your home, relationships, marriage, business, and ministry, start praising God each day! Declare His promises over that situation or person and make it a habit! You are meant to break through! Let it be now and continue to prosper! Hallelujah!

Prayer point: Abba Father, thank You for teaching me the importance of little habits that can bridle my tongue. As I discipline myself and practice speaking words that bring life and edify people, You tame my tongue for the advancement of the Kingdom! May You be glorified; not just in my words but in my deeds in Jesus’ name. Amen.

WHAT ARE YOU HEARING EACH DAY?

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 KJV

The words we hear every day will get either rejected or accepted by us. What we come into agreement with each day is what we speak, and therefore we create the destiny we are headed for. There was a time when Moses sat as a judge of the Israelites and addressed all their concerns day and night. When Jethro, his father-in-law, saw this, he knew this wasn’t a good idea. He gave Moses a piece of wisdom—equip some of his men and train them to be the judges so Moses wouldn’t wear out in the long run. Moses listened, and this changed the course of everyone’s path for the better (Exodus 18:13-26).

Beloved, it is good to surround yourself with people who bring you closer to God; who speak wisdom and guidance upon your life. And always spend time with the Word of God because God’s Word and His presence are always there to give you guidance, wisdom, correction, and direction. The more you listen to God’s Word daily, the more you are able to hear God’s instructions, affirmations, warnings, and encouragement!

Prayer point: Heavenly Father, as I choose to spend time with You and Your Word daily, I thank You, for I can hear Your voice and instructions clearly each day. I desire to empower my faith in You more than my faith in anyone else’s words and opinions. Thank You for the Holy Spirit, Who constantly guides me as my mind gets renewed by Your Word in Jesus’ name. Amen.

PRIORITIZE YOUR PRIVATE DEVOTIONS TO GOD.

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. Matthew 15:8 KJV

Outward appearances do not hold any meaning or significance in the Kingdom of God because the Father always looks from within and for the things unseen. People may look outwardly, but God always looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). And in the struggle to keep an image to be loved, approved, and accepted by others, most people, including unhealed Christians, live in pretension and outwardly portray perfection, although they are inwardly broken or corrupted by the world’s system.

Beloved, Jesus Christ knew that some people honor Him with their lips while their hearts are far from Him. People can pretend to be actively involved in ministries or outwardly express a form of holiness, but their relationship with God is crumbling.
Beloved, it is best to prioritize your private devotions to God even when no one sees you! After all, He Who sees what you do in secret will reward you openly (Matthew 6:6)!

Prayer point: Abba Father, Your attention and affection toward me matter more than anyone else’s approval and attention! I prioritize my prayer life and relationship with You more than anything else! It doesn’t matter whether people see me or not and misunderstand me or not, for I am satisfied in the truth that You see my heart and all the things that I do in secret in Jesus’ name! Amen.

ARE YOU IN NEED OF REST?

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 KJV

In the past, during the days before Christ was born, the people of God were particularly burdened by the law and were heavily laden to obey its rules. Yet no one really made it! There was no rest for their souls because they couldn’t keep up with such difficult rules to follow! Today, our burdens are life pressures and daily expectations we go through in order to thrive and survive—in work, school, ministry, business, etc.! We are loaded with so many things to do, not to mention the family burdens that people are secretly keeping and carrying daily!

Beloved, we praise God for the grace that came through Jesus Christ (John 1:7)! He came to fulfill the law so that people could place their faith upon Him and find rest from the burdens of the law! And we can come to Him and lay down all our burdens whether it’s a matter of family, ministry, school, business, etc. For Jesus promised He will give us rest! Come to Him, beloved, and lay down all your burdens upon Him! Receive your rest in Christ Jesus!

Prayer point: My Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to fulfill the law and take away all kinds of burdens in our lives. You see my heart and the things that weigh me down. I lay it all at Your feet and surrender all the matters into Your hands. I receive Your promise of rest and peace for my soul in Jesus’ name! Amen.

WHICH LEADER ARE YOU?

But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Matthew 20:25-27 KJV

Most types of leaders in the secular world are respected and honored based on their rank, position, and salary. And unfortunately, some Christians still carry the mindset that being a leader means having a position and a title by which you gain honor and respect—a pastor, a prophet, an apostle, etc. Their value is in their position, and they exercise authority to make others follow them and create more followers. But there is a type of leader that glorifies God according to the opening scripture!

Beloved, you are that type of servant-leader! You lead others well with the way you serve, the way you treat those under you, and the way you uplift their souls—catering to people’s needs and bringing them closer to God whether you have a position in the Church or not! You are the type of leader whose value and identity are rooted and secured in Christ alone, not in your rank, your abilities, or the number of your followers! You are the kind of leader that truly glorifies God and serves others well for the purpose of advancing His Kingdom! Hallelujah!

Prayer point: Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me through the life of Your Son Jesus how to lead others in a way that glorifies You. Thank You for showing me the ways of the Kingdom and that leading others means I must serve the people! May You use me powerfully in leading others as I follow the examples set by Christ in Jesus’ name! Amen.

LIVING IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:5 KJV

Do you sometimes feel like you are surrounded by darkness? It can be at your workplace, where people scheme against you, it can be in the ministry, where others try to sabotage your calling, or it could even be in your own family, where they are deceived in certain areas and want to project it onto you. Whatever your case may be, know that as a child of God, you are not alone in these kinds of challenges (1 Peter 5:9).

Beloved, as long as Jesus Christ reigns and you continue to believe in Him, no darkness shall overcome you! The Light of Christ in you is greater than the darkness in this world (1 John 4:4)! You are always victorious in Christ in all situations and places! Hallelujah!

Prayer point: Heavenly Father, thank You for the light of Christ that is greater than the presence of darkness! I magnify Your marvelous doings through the Son for His empowering me always and reminding me of Your Word. No darkness shall overcome me and my family, and I will continue to witness Your power in my life through Christ in Jesus’ name! Amen.

DON'T MIND THOSE WHO COMPLAIN!

But Martha was cumbered about much serving and came to him and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. Luke 10:40 KJV

It is not surprising to find some opposition and complaint against you once you decide to spend time with the Lord and do His will! People will not always understand your relationship with God because it is not their journey but yours and the Lord's! People tend to mask productivity with busyness and service, but it is all meaningless if they are doing what the Lord didn’t instruct them to do (Matthew 7:21).

Beloved, don’t be moved by people’s opinions of you. As you have a strong conviction to spend some time with God in fasting, prayer, meditation, and time alone with Him, just obey His will and hear the words of the Lord, no matter the opposition or complaints. You are safe in God’s presence, and He will defend you in no time! Be still and stay seated at His feet!

Prayer point: Lord Jesus, as I come to bask in Your presence and meditate on Your Word, thank You for keeping me and protecting me from any opposition. You keep me unmoved by what others do or say against me, for I am in the safest place. Thank You, for I will come out empowered. I will glorify You, and this will impact others in Jesus’ name! Amen.

GOD MAKES HIS PRESENCE KNOWN TO YOU.

And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. Exodus 3:3-4 KJV

God has an amazing way to get our attention in the same way he caught Moses’ attention. God knew Moses would be interested in looking at a burning bush that was not consumed, and he was. It caught his attention, he turned aside to see it, and from there, he heard God speak.

Beloved, God always finds a way to make His presence known. Even when we are too busy or too occupied with the day’s tasks, He will always find a way to get our attention. It can be through a song lyric that’s being played on the radio, someone wearing a message T-shirt, an unusual cloud formation in the sky, and so on. Having a relationship with Him is the best because you know you are always pursued by Him. The only question is, will you turn aside to encounter God?

Prayer point: Heavenly Father, thank You for making Your presence known. You know every detail about me and the things that easily get my attention. I know I won’t fail to notice Your presence and Your promptings, for You capture my heart like no other, and I always stand amazed in Your presence in Jesus’ name! Amen.
