Every Scripture carries life, authority, and consequence. When we ignore the Word, it does not lose power it simply gains the ability to confront us in judgment. The Spirit speaking in Scripture is alive, and ignoring it is fighting against heaven itself. James reminds us that God has placed His Spirit inside every believer. This is the same Spirit that calls, convicts, comforts, and guides. He is a dynamic agent within, capable of detecting what is contrary to God’s heart. He knows when our desires are selfish, when our ambitions are divided, and when our hearts covet what is not ours. The Spirit’s presence means our inner life is under divine supervision at all times. The Spirit of God is not jealous in a sinful way, He aligns with God’s desires for us and reacts when we embrace ungodly desires. Envy arises when the flesh competes with God’s Spirit. The Spirit yearns for alignment while the flesh craves self-interest. God’s Spirit within you is constantly pressing against sin, and warning that envy, selfish ambition, and rivalry are enemies to destiny. Our spirit is alive, and our desires are measured against heaven’s standards. When our spirit lusts in harmony with God, our life prospers. When our spirit lusts in rebellion against God, envy rises — and so does conflict, frustration, and defeat. Spiritual maturity comes when you yield to the Spirit within, instead of letting envy and worldly ambition control your heart. Hallelujah!!!

Despite the testimony of John the Baptist, which announced the arrival of Israel's Messiah-King, and the many signs and wonders that Jesus performed during His earthly ministry, we read that the Lord Jesus was despised and rejected by the religious leaders of His day. He was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. I wonder why the religious leaders rejected His heavenly witness. We don't know the reason why these proud, pious, close-minded religious leaders, rejected their Messiah and crucified their Saviour... but we do know that each of us has been supplied with the same witness, from the Word of God, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and we all have the same choices to make - to believe in Him or to reject His offer of salvation. We can accept the truth of God's Word and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved - OR we can reject the truth of God's Word and refuse to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be lost. But once we are justified... we should strive to grow in grace and in a knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and to study the Scriptures daily, so that we do not make the same mistake as the religious leaders of Christ's day. May we not miss the truth that is available to ALL who have eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart that is ready to know the truth, so that we might be set free from the world, the flesh, and the devil - through faith in the efficacious blood of Jesus Christ our God and Saviour.

We all know and love the Christmas story of Mary, Joseph, and the birth of baby Jesus in the little town of Bethlehem. We love to sing of the angels and the shepherds, who saw Jesus lying in a manger of hay and wrapped by his mother in swaddling clothes. And we also like to reflect on the visit of the wise men from the east, and the star that led them to the King. This is not some fanciful fairy-story or cultural myth. This account presents us with actual historical details which pinpoint the time when God the Son came to earth as the Son of Man to pay the price for the sin of the world. It helps us to identify the exact time in history when the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. It arrests our attention and reminds us that this is not simply a nice little folktale, but a factual event anchored in time and recorded in history. It is no coincidence that Caesar Augustus ordered a census to be taken at this time, for God had ordained that Christ HAD to be born in a particular place and His parents HAD to be in Bethlehem, the hometown of their ancestors. It is no coincidence that both Mary and Joseph were descendants of Judah and traced their lineage back to David because it was prophesied that the Messiah HAD to be born in the city of David, which was in Judea: "A man may plan his way, but the Lord directs his steps." As the world charges forward into an increasingly uncertain future, let us recall the wonderful way God moved the heart of famous men and insignificant people to fulfil His perfect plans and purposes for the redemption of the world, and let us confidently trust Him today, and thank Him for His never-failing goodness and grace.
