Relationship In Biblical Term
Speaker: Elder Opare
* Love
1. *Agape* (Unconditional love): Selfless, sacrificial, and unwavering love, often associated with God's love for humanity (John 3:16, 1 John 4:8-10).
2. *Philia* (Brotherly love): Warm, affectionate, and loyal love between friends and family (Romans 12:10, Hebrews 13:1)
Biblical love is characterized by:
- Sacrificial giving (John 15:13)
- Unconditional acceptance (Romans 5:8)
- Forgiveness and mercy (Luke 7:47)
- Humility and servanthood (Philippians 2:3-8)
- Obedience to God's commands (John 14:21)
The Bible teaches that love is a choice, an action, and a commitment, rather than just a feeling. It's about putting others first, serving, and reflecting God's love in our relationships and actions.
* Forgiveness
1. To release or let go_: Freeing oneself and others from the burden of sin, guilt, and shame (Matthew 6:14-15)
2. To show mercy and compassion_: Extending kindness, understanding, and grace to those who have wronged us (Luke 6:36, Ephesians 4:32).
3. To reconcile and restore_: Making amends and rebuilding relationships, as far as possible (Matthew 5:23-24, 2 Corinthians 5:18-20).
Biblical forgiveness involves:
- Acknowledging the hurt or wrong
- Letting go of resentment and anger
- Choosing to release the offender from debt or penalty
- Seeking restitution or healing, if possible
- Extending mercy and grace, as God does
Remember, forgiveness is a process, and it may take time.
Forgiveness is a journey, and God is always available to guide and support us through it.
